The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
This shovel is light and compact, but I found that it does not work well for doing snowpack stability assessments in a snowpit. It is too small and the curvature of the blade prohibits an effective shear or compression test.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
Not too bad, but I wish it collapsed into a smaller size for stowing. There are others that get smaller, but for the price, it's a good beginners shovel.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
I love this shovel! I especially like the fact that it is longer than most other ski shovels, but still has a good blade for building snow shelters, digging out your buddy or building up a jump. The only big con to it is that the blade doesn't work too well for compression tests. But other than that, it is a great shovel.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
Good lightweight shovel for snowcamping, car emergencies etc. Unfortunately when digging a pit in some hard sierra cement I managed to bend the handle where it meets the blade. Not confidence inspiring for avalanche rescue work.
I returned this shovel as I just wasn't impressed. I have bought a different shovel, one of the tried and true ones out there, a little heavier but I think it's well worth it.
Not a bad shovel just be aware of it's best uses.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
This shovel is perfect if you want to use it for more than just that one emergency in the backcountry. I was very satisfied with how well it dug out my car, and wasn't worried about the weight in caryrying it up the mountain. Even when the handle is fully extended this is a solid well built mover of snow.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
I bought this shovel for climbing Mount Shasta. It proved quite handy while digging wind breaks and tent pits at 10400'. I used my trekking poles as deadmen, the next morning when I went to dig out the poles, the shovel had trouble breaking through the frozen crust. My ice axe did a better job busting up the snow.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
I bought this for use digging shelters and clearing trails on casual, weekend snowshoeing-backpacking overnight trips in the Sierra. After two seasons of use, I've found that it is a "goldilocks" product which strikes a "just right" right balance between features, durability and weight. I've seen lighter shovels break under "average" conditions (Come on, plastic and ice? Get real!?) but this guy does well in moderately icy snow layers. Some lighter shovels don't have a telescoping handle and after using one for a while my back hurts whereas this guy's handle is great. You can get a more durable or larger shovel but it weighs a bunch more.

Comments about Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel:
Bought this as a "just in case" for casual snowshoeing. Ended up using it to save my bacon when my truck got stuck. This thing worked great and saved the day. Breaks down easily into my daypack but was easy to deploy and use.
