I'm a regular backpacker, climber, skier, and day hiker. In all those good times, this is my favorite base layer. It has pleasantly long sleeves which is a delight on snow trips when the coverage between jacket and glove is desirable. Layering on top of it is simple because it's ultra thin to the point of being sheer. So, I can strip down to it and not overheat even on a warm day, eliminating the need for a short sleeve shirt. It wicks exceptionally well, and is the perfect under-layer to my thin rain shell. One warning, after rough wear, it will develop little pulls. Gentle reverse pulling will eliminate most of the problem, but after a season or two it will be cosmetically rough. But, the big reason I love it is that it doesn't hold odors! On rigorous multi-day backpacking and climbing trips I am often wishing all my partners had made the same choice. Oh, and it is silk, so aside from the tech specs, you'll be feeling like royalty in the wilderness.

Silk is cool when worn alone and warm when worn underneath something. I use it as a sleep shirt too. Can't beat those natural fibers.
