Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
I used to own a fleece neckwarmer. The wool is so much better!! It is warmer per weight; more windproof; stays warm when wet; and is less bulky (packs smaller). It is not itchy at all! I practically live in my black one. I can wear it to work in winter; backpack with it; and from October through April I put it on every time I go cycling. It has become my most essential piece of cycling gear. Makes a big difference on the downhill (and probably keeps me from getting colds anymore). Since it's wool, it also never gets stinky; it can go for weeks between washings.

Comments about SmartWool Neck Gaiter:
When I bought this I had no clue it was a neck Gaiter. I have yet to use it as one.
This is by far the greatest hat I have ever had. The top of your head is actually never that cold. It's your ears, forehead, and crown. The direct middle is actually so hot you can leave it open in freezing temps and be fine. I also fold over the top flaps to close the top when it is to cold.
I have bought a second one & installed a pull string around the top so I can cinch it closed & tight.
I have also folded it to be an ear band or rolled the end to make a folded type beanie with the top open.
SmartWool (which is just really good marketed Merino Wool) is great. No itchy itchy or fishy wool smell. Very soft, light, & warm.
Biggest plus is that you can wear this all day hiking or climbing; sweating like a Sumo wrestler and it won't smell. I'm the type of guy that easily gets warm & when I adjust to cool off I get too cold. This gaiter makes it easy to regulate your temp by opening the hole or scrunch it up to show more skin.
I shave my head and wear this every day as it is so comfy. Buy 2 so you can keep one nice for Urban use & one for camping.
