These are great hat.I have purchased several from REI. Lost most of them, LOL. Love the fit.
Price is now out of line. I won't be buying more.
There are just as good less costly options even from Patagonia.

Very excited about my smart wool purchase, which promised warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer, I found myself to be quite disappointed with a product that seemed to fail to live up to its promise. the spandex stretch wool seems to leave you more exposed to winter gusts than other hats i have worn and leaves one feeling more cold than one would without the hat.

I wore this hat out in Joshua Tree in mid-december when it was about 45f out. It kept my head and ears pretty warm. The nice thing is how it stretches around and you can wear it high or low.

I'm not sure I'd use this in anything lower than like 35 degrees, unless I was wearing a hooded jacket or something else on top of it.

Also, in anything more than a light rain this would not be the best choice again unless you had a rainproof jacket.

The second time I put it on, the seam failed and a hole popped open. The manufacturer needs to redo the construction of the beanie. A one piece wool beanie is much better.

This is my 2nd Smartwool Lid, the first unexpectedly split at the seem after only 2 uses. Since replacing that with a new one (which I've had for a year and half with no issue) I couldn't be happier. Even in the pouring rain in near freezing temperatures it still keeps me as warm as when it's try. I have to say that this is the best piece of headwear I've ever owned.

I live in Chicago. The winters here are miserable. This hat has helped me brave the last couple of winters. It's warm enough at 0 degrees and below, and cool enough to wear in warmer weather. Someone liked it so much that it was stolen from me this past summer. If it wasn't for the price, which is extremely high, I would buy another one.

Extremely lightweight, yet very warm. I wear this hat to do everything from commuting to work, to shoveling the driveway. It wouldn't likely be my first choice for say, ice-fishing, but if you're moving at all, it's warm.

going on my 2nd winter with this hat - seems to be holding up very well. I use this hat about 90% of the time for Wisconsin winters. Have a warmer hat for when it's really cold and a lighter one for warmer weather but I use this the majority of the time for winter hiking & casual wear. a bit overpriced but a very good hat. I have a smallish head & this fits well.

I love this hat. I got it last year at the end of your sale. Before I was using a windproof fleece hat. I really liked it until I got my Smartwool Beanie. I don't ever wear my old beanie any more. I just bought a new black one as well.

Bought this hat on sale, fits well, breathes well and is excellent in cold and wet weather, but within 2 or 3 weeks I noticed that the tag inside the hat had come loose, and torn two holes in the seam. Either I'll have to repair it myself, or it will have two pencil-sized holes in it.

If you buy this hat, cut out the tag ASAP or the same may happen to you.
