This Attache has a manual lock system, so it is great for ice climbers. Auto locking systems can get jammed (via freezing) or break under severely cold conditions. With this manual system, if the screw lock does freeze, you can still bang on it to get it free from the ice and not have to worry about breaking anything. The pear shape of the carabiner makes it ideal for belaying, however, it is a bit small (or rather compact) for it to anchor multiple ropes and slings. The entire carabiner is metal-alloy (but only 23 kN) so psychologically it feels really strong and safe. It is strong and safe, but I feel that one can potentially be misled that this carabiner can handle more than 23 kN.

Great locker. its simple and effective. just seems to always be the go to locker on my rack. always seems to be the perfect size and shape.

one drawback: screwgate can be somewhat sticky at times.

I've been rock climbing for about 4 years now and have had experience with many different brands and styles of carabiners. The Petzl Attache has always been my go to clip and has never really failed me. The only problem I have ever had with it was after I dropped it in the sand. The gate was fairly difficult to clean out but I don't see how that would really be any different with any other screw gate style carabiner. I always keep one with my climbing gear and one on my day pack (comes in handy more often than you might think). Highly recommend it!

I belay exclusively with these biners. They are the perfect size so that my belay device (ATC or Gri-Gri) is always in the perfect position when I'm belaying. The red indicator is also a nice feature to signal when the biner is unlocked.

It locks, it unlocks, it opens and closes smoothly. What else do you need? The body is big enough to belay twin ropes just fine, and munter hitch goes through without any problems either. It works great to lock into your belay device, into anchors, or anything else you need to lock into securely.

i use this lil biner on my rack, i like how compact yet strong it is. my primary use is caving and our gear takes a lot of abuse. and the gold color stands out over the others and makes it easy to find when i need it. the sap of this biner makes it ideal when having to transfer from one rope to another, or to switch for acent to desecnt gear.

I bought a couple of these for me and my wife. The form factor is perfect as a belay biner: small, fat, lite, and smooth mechanics. However, after a couple years of casual use, groves have been worn where the rope runs over the biner. I suspect that the alloy is a bit too soft (which is probably how the biner is so light). My previous Black Diamond biner lasted longer with less signs of wear.

A great general purpose 'biner for just about anything you need on a multi-pitch climb. The small size allows you to carry several of these and the round stock makes for smooth belays and rigging.
