Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
This Attache has a manual lock system, so it is great for ice climbers. Auto locking systems can get jammed (via freezing) or break under severely cold conditions. With this manual system, if the screw lock does freeze, you can still bang on it to get it free from the ice and not have to worry about breaking anything. The pear shape of the carabiner makes it ideal for belaying, however, it is a bit small (or rather compact) for it to anchor multiple ropes and slings. The entire carabiner is metal-alloy (but only 23 kN) so psychologically it feels really strong and safe. It is strong and safe, but I feel that one can potentially be misled that this carabiner can handle more than 23 kN.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
I belay exclusively with these biners. They are the perfect size so that my belay device (ATC or Gri-Gri) is always in the perfect position when I'm belaying. The red indicator is also a nice feature to signal when the biner is unlocked.

A good belay biner, keylock nose makes it easy to clip a rope into, round stock makes it easy to feed rope with.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
A great general purpose 'biner for just about anything you need on a multi-pitch climb. The small size allows you to carry several of these and the round stock makes for smooth belays and rigging.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
This is a great biner for general use. It is a small HMS biner so don't get it for holding all kinds of large ropes or where bigger is better. This is really not intended for it. I liked the idea of a smaller belay biner becuase I like to have my belay device close to my harness and not really far off my body. This is perfect for that use. I also use it a lot for anchors and it can hold a lot of slings and ropes without getting too bogged down.
It is smooth operating. The screw looking mechanism is smooth without having a million threads so it doesn't take forever to open. You can also get two fingers on the screw to open it if gets a little frozen or jammed. There is also a red stripe on the gate that is only visible when the biner is unlocked, a cool reminder.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
Combo this with the Petzyl Shunt for a perfect self belay setup. Just don't climb anything overhanging for risk of the shunt slipping. Very simple, easy to screw biner. Asymmetry is great for a munter or similar knot for rappel or belaying.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
The Petzl Attache is the best belay 'biner available. It is neither too large nor too small, with just enough clearance for a munter hitch. It is also great for anchoring with a clove hitch on multi-pitch climbs.
The only possible improvement would be the re-introduction of the now-discontinued "spin-ball" locking mechanism, which is quicker to lock and unlock than the screw-gate.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
Perfect size for fitting in my hands and for tying any knot into the 'biner. Plenty of gate clearance so no fussing with having to try and push thing into the locker. For me, the best part is the lack of a "hook" at the gate opening (closer to the wide part of the 'biner) that can catch on gear that I'm trying to remove from the locker.

Comments about Petzl Attache HMS Screwgate Carabiner:
The wide top bucket allows perfectly for a munter hitch, as well as keeping a belay device in place. The red mark indicating an unlocked biner is a nice feature.
