Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
If you are serious about having quality gear that you can count on working when you need it to work, then this is the headlamp for you. Ruggedly built to withstand substantial punishment, the Tactikka XP will still be working when you finally return to civilization.
It is very solidly built, and has a rubber O-ring/gasket seal that keeps the water out and the batteries dry. I've been using mine for going on a year now, and it's the best headlamp I've owned to date (out of 4 previous others on the market I've owned/broken/given away).
I took it with me when I had to complete the Army's 3-week survival school, and it performed flawlessly. It did not burn thru battery power like other headlamps (when the water was freezing in our worn Camelbacks) and it did not short out when it was constantly exposed to rain for three days (just to give you an idea of some of the conditions that destroyed other's headlamps). Prior to that, I used it heavily for night land navigation (Army Orienteering), and it's my #1 "go to" light. Once you get the band(s) adjusted to your head, the light stays solidly in place even while going over severely uneven terrain.
It's probably overkill for "casual campers" who have a much lower cost/quality ratio...but a definite must for people who are looking for rugged, reliable, and dependable quality. Absolutely five stars.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I did a lot of research before I bought this light when it original came out. (over 2 years ago) I tested tons of lights and talked to many people. The model before this one was an Award Winner. And this model is an updated, upgraded version. Add up the long battery life, design, versatility, luminum (light) output, durability, and proven track record - and this was the choice for me. This light ROCKS !!! I simply don't go anywhere without it, and its amazing how many times I have used it in the daytime.
Key notes: colored defusiors really save your night vision. Can be mounted anywhere and transfered quickly. Top strap makes it really stable. Bulletproof. Simple battery power meter.
As with any O-ring type water proofing cover - always check and lubricate accordingly.
If I duck taped a emergency candle to it - I'd go anywhere with this light - and have - lol Yippiee

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
In general I'm pleased with my tacktikka xp. However, here are some drawbacks for your consideration: 1) The lamp's pivot downward pivot is somewhat limited, so if you're performing tasks close to your chest you may be unable to get the beam where you want without moving your head. 2) with the red filter in place, the beam is disappointingly weak. The [...]rayovac headseat that I replaced with this was actually better in this regard. 3) the lenses can be rather awkward to switch on the go/in the dark because to do so requires removing the entire front face of the lamp. Additionally, the clip provided on the headband only holds one filter (three are included).

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
Used this as a helmet light while cycling 1,500+ miles around an airfield in Afghanistan. It kept me out of the concertina wire and the adjustable beam was perfect for my nightly commutes. The first set of batteries lasted 2+ months of commuting and reading myself to sleep. It now goes everywhere with me.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
I have put several trips under my belt with this guy and think the world of this little lamp. It's small, light weight, and powerful. The adjustments in tilt stay put and the turbo mode lights the way well for those times when a little extra is required. The ability to change color filters is nice so that you don't white blind your friends around the camp fire. I found a great side use for my headlamp with this model. The helmet mount fits well on my hard hat at work. The light can easily be removed from the helmet to protect it when not needed.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
When I read other reviews on this light, I bought it. I tried it at night in the garage on my kids' science project. I couldn't believe how dim it was! I did like the colored filters, but the light is almost useless then because it is so dim. Certainly not worth the price. I am returning it for something I can see with further than a few feet.

Comments about Petzl Tactikka XP Adapt LED Headlamp:
This is by far the best headlamp i've ever owned, it is extremely comfortable and super bright. It is a must for those who are looking to buy a great headlamp. In fact, the last trip I went on, everyone else seemed to have ditched their own headlamp and wanted to use mine. If you don't own one yet, I STRONGLY suggest you go out and buy one.
