Provides UV protection to neck and face
I bought this last month and used it last weekend during a trip to Monument Valley, Arizona. I wanted something that would cover my neck and lower face to protect from sunburn and avoid using lots of sun spray when hiking or mountain biking. It worked good, especially since the weekend was sunny and windy with sand blowing. My brimmed hat, glasses and Buff kept my eyes clear and neck protected. The temperature was 81 degrees so the Buff wasn't too hot or uncomfortable on a windy (20 mph) day. I can see using the Buff again so it will be something I pack for use as needed on future trips. Not sure how it will do on a very hot or humid day.
Indispensable Travel Wear
I had two of these on my multi-month trip to Asia. They were among my best travel gears. In hot weather, it kept me cooler by keeping my hair out of my face and neck. It also helped to prevent sweat from dripping down my face. In cold weather, it acted as emergency hat/earmuff (You'd be amazed what a thin layer of fabric can do to keep you warmer!) Occasionally, I also bundled the fabric under my nose to act as a mask when the exhaust from buses and jeeps became overbearing. Lastly, I sometimes use it to wrap my hair when I am on dirt roads of Asia or dusty backpacking trips to keep my hair cleaner which helps when I don't have the facilities to wash my hair every day.
Great for the temporarily hairless!
Having chemotherapy for breast cancer and needing something that was comfortable but not too boring - like a scarf - the Buff proved to be totally cool. It keeps my head warm - it stays on and with a pony tail hair tie, I could dress it up. Really made me feel totally OK about going out with my bald head. Thanks.
Great for cancer patients!
I lost my hair from chemotherapy and wanted headwear that was practical, comfortable, fun, and had some personality. The UV Buff is great! I've been wearing it daily for several months, and I love it. It breathes, is extremely comfortable to wear (I wear it as a do-rag), and it serves all my practical purposes too. Often times I forget that I am wearing it, it is so comfortable. I loved this one so much that I bought two more, one was the insect-repellent buff, and I choose which to wear each day according to which matches my clothing. I love them, highly recommend them to other cancer patients, and I've received so many compliments on them because of their fun colors and personality. They're great!
Works but not perfect
It is good for sun protection, but the length isn't ling enough to cover my neck with a t-shirt on, and the material and elasticity are slightly too tight for my liking. My buddy had a bass pro shop brand gaiter and it was perfect. I have to wool Ibis neck gaiters that also fit much better on the face. The buff was so tight that it hurt my nose after wearing it for prolonged periods. Orrrrr maybe I just have a huge nose and a long neck... But don't think so. The color of the buff is why I bought it overall. When you spend days on the water looking to catch the elusive sea bass, I want light colored clothing. So, they did well by offering a good color option.
I love these things
I use my buff(s) to maintain my crazy hair while I am at work, or at play. They also work great at keeping the summer sun off my neck, or the winter bite outta my shirt collar.
Great Buff
Awesome buff, used it while biking and walking around Siem Reap and it was perfect for keeping the sun off my neck and ears and for covering my mouth and nose while bike-riding through excessive dust or smog. I have another non-coolmax buff that I use while snorkeling/diving and I can't tell the difference as far as being "cooler" or not, but it was fine in 90+ degree Fahrenheit weather.
Very versatile
I just recently graduated high school, and I'm headed to Maine in the fall for college, so I have been stocking up on gear. I bought this version and the original Buff. This version offers great protection against the sun, and it breathes really well. I've worn it while kayaking and playing beach volleyball, and it has stopped me from getting burned. I have also worn it at night around my neck, and it has kept me plenty warm. This thing is very versatile, and stylish.
The Perfect Headwear During Chemo
I was elated to find this headwear while I was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. It is a million times better than wigs, scarves, or hats. It stays on even in a ferocious wind, it's comfortable, it's beautiful, and the UV protection is very important to those of us who have lost our hair. I highly recommend this item!
Works great in the desert!
I have wanted a Buff for a long time, but hadn't found the CoolMax version in a color combo I liked, until this one. I am SO happy with it. It is just as versatile as advertised and EASY to use. I hike in Nevada and my head/hair/neck stays cool and protected from the harsh sun. I am very happy with this purchase.
