Comments about Osprey Crampon Pocket:

I'll start by saying that I have not yet had the opportunity to lash this thing onto my pack for an outing...but I've been shopping for a crampon bag for a little while (obviously there are only a few options) and I eventually forked over the cash for this one. Yes, it's a little heavier than others and yes, it's more expensive too. But in comparison, other bags simply do not have the strapping points to securely fasten crampons to the outside of a pack like this one does. Another huge benefit of this bag in my opinion is thanks to its roominess. Unlike other crampon bags where you have to stack your crampons to fit them inside the bag, with this bag you can actually fit your crampons in the bag side by side (like how you might set your shoes together on the floor, soles down). This may seem unnecessary but after fumbling with crampons and smaller bags in the store I decided that putting crampons on my feet took long enough and I didn't want the extra time wasted trying to play Tetris with my crampons to try to fit them snugly into a minimal bag. Bottom line, I like this bag better than other common crampon bags. It probably has nearly double the volume of other bags, it's simply the easiest to pack, and it matches my backpack.

I miss the side pockets that used to be almost standard on backpacks. Two Osprey crampon pockets strap almost perfectly to each side of my Gregory Denali Pro backpack, serving as side pockets that add additional volume and accessibility. While the top of that pack can make a good day pack for excursions from base camp, the crampon pocket, with the use of nylon straps, can be adapted as an additional waist pack.

This is a very durable bag. The thick plastic insert has kept the points from punching through. I have Grivel G-12s with the long bars, and has plenty of room. Easy to load/unload. Not the best setup to attach to the outside of your pack. Two adjustable length straps and two with quick release buckles. I've made it work with a couple of biners and straps...more weight. This is a great bag to store and transport your crampons (mine made several flights/porter/mule carries in my base camp bag and held up great), but it's too big to put in your pack and kind of heavy for a long carry.
