I know you are thinking this bag is so light for the price and you are right, but that light weight comes at a price...the very narrow cut of the bag. I have pretty typical girth for an adult male, 42" chest and 51" shoulders. I have found that I can't sleep in anything less than a 60" girth. I don't know why I need 9" of extra girth but it feels adequately tight. What I felt in this bag in the store was that it was unusually snug. I didn't realize that what was happening was that the snugness was compressing the down around my torso. When I tried it out on a cold night, I found that I was cold around 30 F, and that was with a liner. This wasn't due to Rei skimping on the down, but the fact that I was too wide in the shoulders to allow the down to fully loft and insulate. The funny thing is that there are alot of reviews here that mention this bag not being warm enough, and I wonder if it was for the same reason that I was cold in it...because the cut was too snug for them.

Keep it mind. Figure out your prefered cut, so you know easily if it is worth it to even look at a particular bag.

This is a really nicely made, lightweight bag. However, it is not warm enough for cold conditions. Certainly not near 20 degrees! I am a small and light person, 5'8" 136lbs, and had no problem with the size as other have reviewed here, but no way is it a freezing and below bag. I start to get cold around 40 and have to add clothing to stay warm. I might make it through the night at freezing with heavy clothing, but that should not be necessary. I heard they are redesigning this bag. You might want to wait until then.
As far as size, weight and packability, I found it completely satisfying.

I purchased this bag to upgrade from my TNF Blue Kazoo(20* 3 lb 600 fill)that I have used for 15 years. I was attracted to the weight saving aspect and price of the Sub Kilo. I am 5'10" 160lbs and a warm sleeper. The Sub Kilo for the most part is a well made bag. Like other users, I found the bag a little snug but with my slender build I have no problems with the fit (I can see where others do).On cold mornings I usually get dressed in my bag but the slender cut does not allow me to put my pants on without unzipping the bag. The zipper does snag on occasion but not as much as other bags I have used. I have slept comfortable in temps in the upper 20's and comfortable in the lower 20's with a short sleeve t-shirt. The coldest temps I have used the bag is 15* and I wore heavy-weight long johns top and bottoms and slept fine. If the girth was expanded 2"-3" this would be an ideal 3 season bag.

The first time I used this bag was January of this year. The temperature dropped to 18F and I was using a bivy and did not get cold. I did not have to use multiple layers of clothing to keep warm either. I agree with other reviewers that it might be a little tight but for the comfort of carrying such little weight in my pack allowing me to carry other necessities it is well worth it

Its 57" shoulder width is too narrow for a man who buys large [*], etc. Its marginal if one sleeps pertectly still but it has to roll with you hence the pad loops are useless. Arm movement is restricted to below mid chest without a tight squeese up to your shoulders.The bag sleeps cold. Its probably more like a 25-30 degree rating which is ok for the weight but you can't really wear laying in the bag; its just too narrow.

I like this bag a lot, and I have had several bags over the years. I am a very slim, tall woman at exactly 6' tall and I am wishing that I had bought the 6'6'' version but I am plenty comfortable in this bag and do not plan on exchanging it (save the weight!) If you are not fairly slim I would recommend getting a wider bag.

I am an extremely warm sleeper, so even in 10-20 degree weather at moderate elevation I have been quite satisfied. This is coming from someone who has taken her 35 degree Western Mountaineering bag into low twenties weather and slept well, so take that into account.

A lot of people here complained about the zipper snagging, but I believe that REI has corrected this with a thin strip of fabric that runs along next to the zipper. I had to try pretty hard to get it to snag just testing out the zipper and have had no trouble with it in the field.

To sum up: I don't think there is a better ultralight down bag for the low price of this one, and the color is very pretty!

I have been amazed at the compressibility of this bag and it's light weight. It squeezes down to fit in most any pocket of my pack.
The down side is, well, the down. It is rated for 20+ but I have to say that on several outings where the temp has touched the freezing point, I have had to wear full thermal layering while trying to get some sleep. Cold nights also require a full zip on this bag which will drive anyone with the slightest claustrophobia nuts. This bag is built for that Skinny Fit dude you see running in the rain, not for me. zero shoulder room and arms plastered to the sides. Works fine if you're exhausted, I suppose.

This is my first down bag, and I am amazed at the compressibility. I like the design of this bag. The full length zipper is nice, and I find the dimensions comfortable (I am 5'10" and 165lbs - slight bulge around the middle). However, the 20F rating is very optimistic in my experience. I am usually a pretty warm sleeper, and I found this bag *just* adequate in 30F over a RidgeRest pad.

Any recommendation would be very conditional. If I had to do it over again, I would research more thoroughly before committing to this bag.

I'm average to stocky build: 5'10", 44" chest. I struggle to get zipped in to this bag and when I do, I am in tight (i.e. cannot move my arms). I would not have bought it if I'd been able to try it first

I was very disappointed in this bag after using it in 40 degree weather. I thought it would be the perfect companion to use on my Grand Canyon trip where the nights were only expected to dip into the low 40's to upper 30's. I was cold every night. I had to wear long underwear and an insulated top with a hat to be slightly warm and even then, my feet were freezing. That foot box is almost devoid of insulation.

I've been doing this for 35 years and I've never had a bag that was rated so poorly. When a bag is rated at 20 degrees, it shouldn't be a challenge to stay warm at 40! In fact, I've had SD and TNF bags in the past that were OVER rated such that I could count on the bag to take me 5 degrees lower than rated. Not so with this little wonder.

I have to wonder what is the cause of this problem.

I'm taking it back to trade in for something else like a Marmot or Mountain Hardware.
