Great product
Wrap it up with the tent before putting it in stuff bag so doesn't take up much room. Gets the stakes into the ground with no problem and the holes in the handle make pulling the stakes out (in most cases) a breeze. Have one for backpacking and also for car camping. Highly recommend it.

USELESS GARBAGE
This mallet is completely useless. I gave it a chance because there were so many positive reviews, but it's total garbage. I felt ridiculous trying to use it because it was like trying to hammer stakes with a children's toy. Does absolutely nothing; how can it when it's just lightweight plastic? If it only works in soft ground which doesn't require hammering, then what's the point? Such a rip off.

This is a keeper

This was the mallet to seal the deal. As you are traveling across the states by bike for any length of time, weight always is a huge factor. This mallet weighs no more than my camera! Yet it still pierces the tent stakes into hard ground like its nothing. A key feature that I liked was that one could saw off the handle, to make it smaller to fit in his or her panniers better. Keep in mind by doing this you lose some of you force while pounding in the tent stakes. Yet the handle also has holes for one to pull up the tent stakes- which makes it nice at times too!! All in all this product is a must because of how light it is.

this thing rules but it is defintely plastic

i like this mallet. it's really light, it does the job and packs a surprising heft despite its weight, and the stake pullers on the handle are a life saver. this is definitely a product made of plastic though. hammering away with it will probably damage the mallet head and plastic will chip or flake off... not exactly great if you're trying not to leave a trace. it only took me a single trip to start seeing this, so a bit more durability would have been nice to be honest. but to some degree this probably comes with the territory of a lightweight plastic item. you can't have it all. just something to be aware of!

Light but great

I was worried this mallet would be comically light and not at all useful (like some other reviews mentioned) but I have to say I disagree. Yes, it is absolutely lighter than a rubber mallet but it's definitely heavy enough to pound stakes into the ground. It's also one piece so I can't see it easily breaking apart like some other mallets. With a product like this there is no need to pay $30 for a mallet. You will not find a better product at a better price.

Durable!!!

I bought one of these hammers two years ago to use while camping. It's been used several times per year to set up and take down my tent. It has held up to rugged use and is still going strong, and I can remove stubborn tent stakes that have literally bent the hooks on lower-quality mallets. This mallet *IS* light, so it does take a bit more "oomph" to drive in tent stakes. However, the weight savings is nice if you're packing it in.

Good For Hammering, Not Pulling Stakes

Great for hammering in stakes even in to somewhat hard ground, but unfortunately when its time to pull the stakes out from the same hard ground the plastic will just not do. It does pull well enough on soft ground/soil though. When pulling the stakes out, the stakes they just starter to shred the plastic until it finally it ripped. Im going to try the more expensive titanium one and see how that one holds out.

Lightweight and affordable mallet

I have only taken this mallet with me on a handful of camping trips, but thus far I am very pleased with it. This mallet is much lighter than my previous rubber mallet and still functions just as well, if not better. I have not had any problem driving stakes into the ground so far. It is extremely lightweight and best of all, affordable. A must have for tent campers.

Lighweight and handy

I've always brought a hammer in my car camp kit until I completely thrashed one of my tent stakes. I picked this up so I'd have something light I could throw in my camping box and forget about. I've used it on two different stake designs and even on hard ground it did the trick no problem. Can't complain with that.

Very good buy and relatively lightweight, Worth It

Excellent price and well worth the cost. I have a more expensive, more durable alloy one, however, it is 4-5 ounces heavier. Did not want to carry the heavier one for 12 days in Philmont. This is worthwhile to have for a group of Boy Scouts when some nights were in hard, hard ground. As long as you can "control" their exuberance, it will last. In other words, use it carefully, and it won't break. Used in conjunction with msr stakes; it pulls them out well.

Sweet lil tool

My fiance and I went on a winter camping trip along the Californis coast. Since we were backpacking we did not want to carry those heavy rubber mallots... this worked perfectly and was light and durable. Handled a month of camping, weekly use.
