Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

[...] We needed it for the STP to get my wife + friend + I to the starting line + then back home to Seattle. This was so perfect + is actually stylish looking. You will not be sorry if you buy this rack. The only down side is that you cannot open the trunk with the bikes loaded. I tried to open the trunk with 3 bikes loaded + needless to say it was not a good idea. You need this bike rack!

Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

Because of my car, I can only use a trunk rack. This is one of the most stable racks on the market, which is what I was looking for. I've had 3 bikes on the rack driving down a bumpy highway, and the rack stayed completely stable.

What's to say? It's light, durable, and strong. It doesn't scratch the car. It holds the bikes steady. It's easy to install. If you're going to buy a bike rack for your trunk, buy this one.

Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

I purchased the Bones 3 to use on my 2006 Honda Accord with factory spoiler.[...]The broken pieces were not in the box so I can only conclude that it was shipped this way from Saris. It would appear that although the resin used to form this rack is strong it can also be brittle and the quality control at Saris is lacking.I still decided to fit the rack to my Accord to get a feel for how well it fit and held bikes if I were to exchange it for an unbroken one. The initial set up of the rack was problematic and frustrating in part because of its design and adjustability. I needed to remove and adjust all 3 sets of arms. The extruded aluminum pipe has the tie down trunk straps just run through it and they shift and tangle easily with one another. I found this to be a simple but not very elegant solution to securing the rack to the trunk. Once mounted however, the Saris rack fit over the factory spoiler and was stable.Once mounted on the car the rack proved difficult to fit 2 of the 3 bikes I needed to mount. The only bike that fit easily was a GT that has narrow diameter frame tubing. The larger diameter tubing of the mtb's proved problematic due to the limited cradle size and the thickness of the formed arms. The plastic straps were stiff and difficult to tread into the buckles. So, when all was said and done the Bones 3 provided limited use for me and I did not trust it's long term durability and functionality after receiving it with a cracked/broken cradle and how the larger frame tubes fit the cradels themselves. This is a colorful product with appealing form, but it's execusion was lacking for me.I returned the Saris rack and purchased a Yakima QuickBack 3 rack and while it was $40 more expensive I believe it to be a better designed, stronger, more more well thought out product. In my opinion there is no comparison between the 2 products.tfelter

I've used this on a Nissan Altima, Honda Element, and Honda Civic and it worked great on all three. The variable angles that this design allows for let you perfect the settings for any car. Much lighter weight than other comparable racks. Drove 80+ on the freeway with no problems. No scratches on car. Buy this rack.

After 3 months of researching and talking to other bikers, we decided on this rack and I'm glad we did. It fits our Honda Accord perfectly, and holds the bikes securely even at highway speeds. It's easy to mount and the feet do not scratch the paint.

Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

The screws that are used to secure where you place the legs on the center metal tube are made of plastic and quickly stripped out. Thankfully the weight of the bike and the straps holding the rack to the car keep the arms from moving that much, otherwise the rack wouldn't be useful at all.

Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

I bought my Saris in 2006. I only used it 3 times and the strap broke the last time because a plastic protective insert was missing and the strap rubbed and wore through on one side.
We could fit my husbands bike on the rack easily but my hybrid women's bike had to fit on the outside position only and the bike had to be completely diagonal because it wouldn't fit correctly on the bike.
Once I got the rack set up initially it was pretty easy to put on my car, the next two times. But I won't be buying this rack again. I need one with narrower/smaller bars to hold my bike.

I used this rack for the first time this weekend on my Subaru Forester, and was pleased with the rack's performance. For installing and adjusting the rack for the first time, there is a you-tube video that demonstrates the procedure, which made the installation much easier.

Comments about Saris Bones 3 Trunk Rack:

I bought this rack specifically for my 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible. This was one of the few racks which would actually fit properly. While it did it's job pretty well, it was difficult to install. Generally it would take me about 10 minutes to get it put on, assuming I left it adjusted when storing it. Unfortunately, this was a major problem since I was unable to use/open the trunk while it was installed, which was the only place I could actually store equipment when the top was down.

The large frame, while sturdy, made it difficult to get the full suspension mountain bike racked.

For anyone who regularly transports their bike, I would recommend an easier to use system that doesn't interfere with use of the trunk & can be left on, however, for occasional use for people with convertibles or lack of other alternatives, this is a viable solution.

On the plus side, I've always taken good care of my car, and was pleased that the large rubber feet & straps did not scratch or damage the exterior paint at all.

If you have a full suspension bike, check to ensure it will fit your bike before buying.
