Note to REI: please add a zipper garage to this and ALL other REI garments that zip closed at the neck! MTS layers are COLD weather gear. I can't imagine why anyone would want to have cold metal zippers in direct contact with their skin.
There's no need to add a flap behind the entire length of zipper: just the top 2" or so, and then wrap the flap around over the top to create a little "zipper garage" that will protect the chin as well!
This MTS layer improves on past REI offerings such as the REI Powerstretch Zip in that it offers a generous 2-3/4" high collar.
I've always been baffled by low-collar zip necks. If I wanted no-to-low neck coverage, I'd buy a crew!
Kudos to REI for thinking this one through - if they'd just add that zipper garage across the MTS line, I'd score it 5/5 stars across the board (and for that matter I'd gladly pay more -- perfection has its price!).
For my svelte, 6'1", 165lb build, the collar could have fit just a little bit more snugly, but that is of course a subjective preference/body type issue.
For my build, the fit is just right: just loose & stretchy enough to pull it on over performance-T, and just snug enough to serve as a first layer on its own.

Aside from my year-end ski trips, I bring them on my business trips - but I wear them over my office shirt in place of a sweater! It looks chic (esp black), it's lighter than a sweater, and easy to wash. Great for plane travel, and in cool climates without the bulk. Sleeves may be a bit too long but it's no big deal as I can fold them.

Brought a green one on two backpacking trips in the Pecos, NM. Non-tall size a bit short on my 6-ft.-3-in. frame, but OK. I tire of black. Warm, breathes well, and doesn't get clammy when you sweat into it. Comfortable, unlike the old somewhat scratchy polypropylene of the 1980's. Easy to clean. This whole MTS series is really excellent for outdoor activities, a big step forwards from older gear.

I bought these to wear as a liner when cycling below 50 degrees. They wick very well, are warm, and stay good looking. Wash easily (in sink/shower when traveling), dry quickly, don't retain odor. I typically have trouble with sleeves being long enough or the shirt tail coming out as I have long torso and arms (think orangutan), but these are great. Also wear casually typically with t-shirt over. I've not noticed the zipper-neck problem one other review notes. I think the zipper is well protected and doesn not bite or chill.
