Comments about Ergon GP1-L Grips - Large:
This is a wonderful alternative to most handle bar grips out there. I can't believe it took this long for grips designed like these to come out. Specialized has some Body Geometry grips which are a bit ovalized, but I recommend these to everyone. My only gripe is that I've had to tighten them every few months, but it may be because I'm afraid of overtightening them.
I've had these for over a year on a relatively new bike and have never regretting buying them.

Comments about Ergon GP1-L Grips - Large:
I'm loving the thicker feel these grips give to my handlebars. Once tightened, these things just don't slip out of position. I found angling the grips slightly upward gave me the best comfort and hand position. Really helped to relieve the numbness I used to feel with the stock grips on my Trek 4500. For the type of trail riding I do these are wonderful. However, if you do more technical maneuvers and need a full grip all the way around the handlebars then these may not be for you. I would still recommend giving them a try first though.

I have used several mt bike grips but these really take the cake away from all the rest-- my hands are not as tired after a ride. I find that since I do not grip as hard the ft end stays on the ground better on steep climbs which I do plenty of and love. In other words they truly help me to have better control of the bike and hence track better. Bottom line---great product which adds power, comfort and control on the trails.

Comments about Ergon GP1-L Grips - Large:
I have been riding and racing mountain bikes since the late 80s, I have tried alot of different grips, these grips are awesome. I bought these grips at Pedros Fest Last year, and later bought a second pair for the commuting bike. I was having problems with hand numbness on long off road rides. With the extra support and ergo design of these grips, hand pain is no longer a problem. Some reviewers commented that they can grip the bars hard enough for real technical riding situations. I think it depends on your skills and experience and the type of ridding you like to do. These grips work great for me on technical singletrack cross country type riding that I most often do. They may not be the best for downhill or free-ride specific riding, because your pinky and third finger do not wrap all the way around the grip.

Comments about Ergon GP1-L Grips - Large:
I bought these hoping they would be a good upgrade to the stock grips on my mountain bike which have been causing discomfort and numbness recently. For my purposes which is very bumpy trail riding they didn't meet my expectations. The idea is the extra area allows you to take stress off the fingers and allow you to put more weight on the palms. This is fine for smooth paved riding where you don't need a strong grip, but on the trails with lots of roots and ups and downs, where I need a firm grip to maintain control most of the time, they just didn't work well and didn't help with lessening discomfort at all. I felt my range of motion in my wrists was diminished and honestly they just felt kinda weird. They also got pretty slippery when wet with sweat. I wouldn't recommend them for serious offroad riding at all, but for road or paved trail riding I can see how they could might add some comfort. On the upside, they were easy to install and didn't slip at all.

I upgraded my mountain bike grips to the ergon grips. I use my bike for commuting purposes so the ergon grips work great. They are much more comfortable than the regular grips. There is also an ergon grip with a built-in bar end which would seem to offer more hand positions.

I'm 56 and have had trouble with hand numbness on the mountain bike I have set up with 1-1/2 inch road tires. I use the bike for utility and country road touring. (My road bike with drop bars is comfortable, no numbness.) These grips solved the problem after a few test rides with them rotated to different angles. I can't comment on durability after only a couple of weeks. They also support your wrists so instead of having them fold backward or holding them straight with muscle effort your arms are more relaxed. They slide right on the bars and tighten securely and easily. With a hex wrench in a pocket you can easily adjust their position during a ride. What a relief. Thanks, Ergon!

I added these to my Novara Safari's butterfly bars and they are extremely comfortable on long rides. Plus, I put them on my wife's Surly Long Haul Trucker with butterfly bars. She was having numbing in her hands and sore wrists before we put them on, but now she has no complaints. We both love the product and recommend them to anyone using a straight bar or, in our case, the rare-to-find butterfly expedition bar.

Comments about Ergon GP1-L Grips - Large:
I have used several aftermarket grips over the years (and gel gloves) and these are the best I have found. I was getting numbness in my thumb and first two fingers. With these, the numbness is gone or begins much later in the ride and they are noticeably more comfortable. I have only used them for easy trail riding and cruising so far, but anticipate no problems with the moderate to advanced trail riding I sometimes do.These were very easy to install since you don't have to force them on/off against friction like typical grips. The clamps hold well and are easy to adjust. It is helpful to experiment with a few different angles at first. There are quite a few options in ergo grips at REI including a version of this with bar-ends built in. I like these over the bar-end version because these are lighter and they are comfortable enough that I am not seeking different hand positions that bar-ends offer (also the standard grip position is more comfortable than the bar-end grip). The only problem I had is that the one I bought was missing one of the bolts. It probably fell out or was taken out while on display on the sales floor. The packaging is odd with one grip concealed inside the sealed box and one on the outside for testing the feel. I noticed that the outside grip had no bolt, but I assumed that there would be two bolts concealed inside the box. There was only one in there. It takes a fairly common metric sized bolt like those that hold water bottle cages and I had little trouble finding a replacement at [@] and later found some among my extra bike hardware.
