    I bought a pair of these bottoms for a camping trip, and wore them for my morning walk. The seam is done is such a way that it chafes. Very irritating.

      These mid-weight pants have now become my favorite for adding warmth underneath my rain pants. I found they were soft and the elastic waist was comfortable. I look forward to another 20 years of dependable quality from REI. I couldn't beat the price anywhere. The colors were fun!

            I use this product almost daily in the Winter in temperatures from Windchill of 3 degrees F to 38 degrees. They haven't let me down yet. I have Cold Urticaria which can quickly be described as an "allergic reaction to cold" creating painful burning hives with insane itching. If cold, I quickly become very miserable.... since wearing these bottoms, I have not had one reaction in this temperature range, with proper snow/cold related atire over them. They are not overly heavy or uncomfortable to wear in any way. I highly recommend them!

            I live, teach and travel abroad. I bought these to hike Mt. Fuji and they were fantastic and perfect for that. I'm 5'3, so they are a little long for me and I would have preferred a petite size (I didn't realize it was available when a friend picked these up for me) but it's not a big deal. They are so comfortable, I started wearing them all the time under jeans, (even under skirts/dresses as really awkward leggings when it's very cold-I work in a school that is very poorly heated), for yoga, biking, hiking, hanging around my apartment, pajamas, walking my dog, etc. I bought them in the purple and just bought another pair in black. I did notice that the similar, but less warm (and less expensive) pair goes on sale occasionally, but this style never seems to, I do wish these were priced lower... I usually spend less than this on a pair of pants, but I guess they are priced $15 lower than a similar NorthFace item and they are so versatile and comfortable that it's worth having two pairs - or more! I really do love them and I have had no issues with itching or chafes.
