Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
We've had a lot of rain lately, so I've gotten a ton of use out of it. It really does withstand the wind and does not fold in on itself. It feels very sturdy in my hand and definitely has become my go-to umbrella!

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I paid for this REI umbrella before moving abroad, assuming that it would be of lasting "REI Quality". After a year of occasional use it is, unfortunately, falling apart. The joints in the ribs are rusted, which I find unbelievable to happen to an umbrella, and after one exceptionally windy day in the rain one of the joint nuts fell out forcing me to jury rig it with a piece of wire.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
Love the bag and hooking it on luggage. This is my second one, the first wasn't used much before one of the ribs snapped.
I have an older Eagle Creek one that works just as well, also has a carrying case, and is cheaper!

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I took this to the UK for a month long trip. The weather can be variable so it is wise to have a 'brolly' when out and about. The first thing I noticed about this is its size. It really is big and you start to notice it when walking around or sat in a bar & it is taking up the whole table. The second point that really annoyed me was the quality of the carry bag. The actual brolly itself appears to be well made & worked really well. The carry bag has mini-handles on it & a little lock to attach to your waist et cetera. Dur to its size you need these items yet within 2 days of walking around London the sitching came apart rending them worthless. Finally, the cost. If you lose this brolly you will take a hit on the cost. On several occasions I left in somewhere & it was only pure luck that it was not taken. When you are on holiday your mind can wander a bit & losing a [$] brolly cld be a pain.Overall , I would suggest buying a smaller & far cheaper brolly that would be easier to carry & if you were to leave it somewhere you would not be too upset.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I wanted an umbrella that was compact and would hold up to the windy sections of my commute. I originally purchased another brand of umbrella (rhymes with ghostbusters). It was larger and not easy to tuck in my commuter tote bag. The first umbrella broke the first day of use when I tried to close it the mechanism shot off the top half of the umbrella like a cannonball. I finally saw this umbrella on REI and I decided to give it a try. It has been working great so far (I haven't had it long enough to test it under extremely windy days yet). The size really is compact to tuck in my commuter bag and it is lightweight. The umbrella has an auto close feature that is helpful, too. I really like the feel of the handle, it is a great grip when you are wet so your hand has a good grip on it. So far it has withstood the wind. The cover features a carbiner which I can attach to the handle of my bag. I liked that there were color options so I could pick something other than gloomy black.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
After buying this because it appeared to be such a cool design, I found that:
1) the cool little bag is worthless because it is such a chore to get the thing back in the bag
2) it frequently doesn't want to close back up
3) today, on my way to a job interview it refused to fold back up or even to inflate more than 1/2 way. I struggled with it for 15 minutes trying to get it to work, and finally just muscled it back closed, destroying it in the process.
It goes back to REI for a refund today.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
This umbrella doesn't have durability.
The umbrella rib has broken only by using it ..four.. five times.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
the umbrella is great... but it breaks.
it's small enough to fit in my messenger bag.
it's heavy but feels like quality. i decided to stop buying low quality umbrellas and buy one that would last me.
i've had two, and each one has lasted a year.
on the first one, the stitches came out of the attachment of the fabric to the joint. then the joint no longer folded properly. i exchanged it and decided to give it another chance b/c overall i liked the umbrella.
today the second one broke. it just won't stay open, and it won't close anymore. i think the strong spring that opens and closes it is actually too strong.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I have had this umbrella about two years now and it has been great. It is not as big as some, but that is the trade-off you make with the ease of storage (I travel a lot for work and generally keep this in my bag). It turned inside out once in a windstorm in Paris but I just flipped it back around and it has been fine ever since. One thing that took me by surprise at first is that the structure feels a bit 'loose' when open - I took that as a sign of poor construction initially but two years later it is exactly the same so it's not a problem in my mind.

This umbrella lasted less than one season! I've had [$]drug store umbrellas last longer than this! I really expected more from REI and for this price! It really does look sturdy, but wait until you get out into real wind!
