The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
My favorite thing about this umbrella is the carabiner clip carrying bag, which means I don't have to stick a wet umbrella in my shoulder bag. I just stick it back in the bag and hang it from the d-ring on my Timbuk2 bag. Stays out of the way on the bus and subway. I liked it so much I bought another one for my wife.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I bought this in an REI store about 3 months ago. I felt awkward for spending [$]on an umbrella. However, when I opened, I could feel the quality and the craftsmanship. I'm pretty sure I will never have to buy an umbrella again. My only problems are that they say the umbrella is "aerodynamic" but it works no better/no worse in the wind than any other umbrella and that the coverage diameter is lacking whilst wearing a backpack. It's perfect if you're solo.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I bought this for a trip I made to Japan. During the 3 weeks I was there, I encountered parts of 2 typhoons. This umbrella was great! It worked really well in heavy rain and strong wind. It was also really nice to be able to hang it from my Velocity 6 camera bag when it wasn't raining. The only thing I wished for was that it would be slightly bigger when the rain was coming at me sideways.

This is a great product. On mine, the button was sometimes not responsive. But otherwise it was strong, portable, and easy to hold. Also, do not put this product in those buckets businesses (like restaurants) put out during rainy days because this umbrella is too expensive to get stolen, as was mine.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I wasted too much money buying cheap umbrellas that broke after the first hard rainstorm. This little umbrella is easy to pack and resistant...a perfect addition to any bag.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I do field research in the tropics and found the umbrella to work good. However, I dropped the umbrella and one of the spreaders snapped, which caused the side to flop down. I rate this as poor quality since it was dropped from only a few feet above the ground and still broke.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I've always used cheap umbrellas (either the free ones you pick up at conferences or the cheap ones from the drug stores) and they never failed me. But this rainy season, I decided to splurge and upgrade to an REI umbrella. I loved the green print. I wanted the handy pouch. I was sold by the reviews and the description. I thought this umbrella would last for years. I was wrong. The handy pouch was a big selling point, but it was such a chore putting the umbrella into the pouch that I never used it. It was also the hardest umbrella to close. It did not stand up to high winds. It flipped out the way any cheap umbrella does. And one day with no winds and a light rainfall, I tried opening it, and it broke. Carrying around a broken umbrella really sucks. I used it a total of 13 times. I never dropped it. I treated it gently and it up and died. Thanks REI for your awesome return policy. I'll return to using the free or cheap umbrellas.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
Worked great for the first year. Now the tiny pins holding the structural parts together are falling out. We have not used this an inordinate number of times nor in especially bad weather. I guess we will see if the "Life Time" warranty is any good.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I purchased this umbrella b/c I love REI and the umbrella was travel-sized (so I could take it with me to work at any time). It came in really handy when I first used it: on my way home from work, I got caught in a torrential downpour. The umbrella did a great job - it's just that it's on the smallish side (I'm a little over 6' tall). Were it a little bit bigger (wider), I'd give it 4.5 stars ... but its small size drops it to 3.5.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
This is an outstanding umbrella. It opens with a push of a button, and it closes with one too, which is excellent for the Metro/subway and buses. I had mine for 6 months and it hands down beats any other umbrella I've ever had. Great in high winds too as this def flexes more in the wind than others. I bought one for my girlfriend and she loves it, and I now have several friends with them too. Sadly I left mine in a taxi last weekend and have been missing it all week (raining like crazy), so I'm ordering another one after I write this. You won't be disappointed.
