Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
My favorite thing about this umbrella is the carabiner clip carrying bag, which means I don't have to stick a wet umbrella in my shoulder bag. I just stick it back in the bag and hang it from the d-ring on my Timbuk2 bag. Stays out of the way on the bus and subway. I liked it so much I bought another one for my wife.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I wasted too much money buying cheap umbrellas that broke after the first hard rainstorm. This little umbrella is easy to pack and resistant...a perfect addition to any bag.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I bought this in an REI store about 3 months ago. I felt awkward for spending [$]on an umbrella. However, when I opened, I could feel the quality and the craftsmanship. I'm pretty sure I will never have to buy an umbrella again. My only problems are that they say the umbrella is "aerodynamic" but it works no better/no worse in the wind than any other umbrella and that the coverage diameter is lacking whilst wearing a backpack. It's perfect if you're solo.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I bought this for a trip I made to Japan. During the 3 weeks I was there, I encountered parts of 2 typhoons. This umbrella was great! It worked really well in heavy rain and strong wind. It was also really nice to be able to hang it from my Velocity 6 camera bag when it wasn't raining. The only thing I wished for was that it would be slightly bigger when the rain was coming at me sideways.

This is a great product. On mine, the button was sometimes not responsive. But otherwise it was strong, portable, and easy to hold. Also, do not put this product in those buckets businesses (like restaurants) put out during rainy days because this umbrella is too expensive to get stolen, as was mine.

I bought this for my son to take down to Buenos Aires, Argentina where they have big thunder storms with high winds. He needed an umbrella that could be easily transported and small in size. He has been in some bad storms this year and has told us the umbrella is fantastic and happy he has it. It has held up well in high winds and rain.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I keep this umbrella in my bag everyday. Having said that, perhaps it gets beat up more than average. It is pretty good in protecting from rain deluges--but the inside structure of the umbrella has broken. I've only had the umbrella for a couple of months, so that was really disappointing.
A good thing about the umbrella is that the handle is cushioned, so it is comfortable to hold. The umbrella pops open easily (you don't have to struggle or shake it to open it like other pop-ups). Also, the material it is made out of is water resistant, so the rain does not saturate the top of the umbrella--it just rolls right off.

The island where I live is a windy place. The canopy of this umbrella permits wind to escape from the top.

Comments about REI Travel Umbrella:
I purchased this umbrella b/c I love REI and the umbrella was travel-sized (so I could take it with me to work at any time). It came in really handy when I first used it: on my way home from work, I got caught in a torrential downpour. The umbrella did a great job - it's just that it's on the smallish side (I'm a little over 6' tall). Were it a little bit bigger (wider), I'd give it 4.5 stars ... but its small size drops it to 3.5.
