Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I am usually the kind of guy who rates in the middle of the scale, but for the REI adventurer pants, I had to give them all 5 stars. These are both the best piece of clothing for travel I have ever bought, and the best pair of pants I have ever bought.
First, let's get construction and quality out of the way. I only have one pair of these pants, have worn them for several days at a time, on transpacific flights, on grungy trains, walking around in the heat all day for several days. I've washed them in my home clothes washer. I've handed them over to the hotel to wash, I've washed them in a hotel bathroom sink. There has been no fading, no wearing of the fabric, not a single stitch has started to come undone.
Second, the fabric. I have owned several pairs of nylon pants since the late 90s, and have notices the softness of the fabric getting better and better. These pants are the best yet. They have the look of maybe a light cotton duck, or a cotton/linen blend, and the feel of silk or silk/cotton blend. these don't look or feel like nylon pants.
The fit - they feel slightly smaller than other pants I have of the same stated waist size, but not too bad. They are roomy without being baggy, they breathe incredibly well even in a hot humid climate like Houston, where I live.
Fashion - I love the versatility of these pants. I can wear them with a t-shirt and hiking shoes, and they don't look too formal. I can wear them with dress shoes and a sportcoat and tie and they look presentable for dinner at an upscale restaurant.
A related issue - functionality. These have seven (7) pockets, 3 of which are zippered, which provide great security, yet because the 3 zippered pockets are hidden along the side seams, you look more like you are wearing a pair of dress slacks, not some military-style cargo pants. Another functionality issue - these pants dry so fast - whether you are washing them in a hotel sink and hang-drying them overnight, get soaked by rain or rapids while outside, or soaked by your own sweat - they are going to dry so fast that you never have to worry about walking around in soggy pants.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I read the reviews prior to engaging in a global business trip and decided to purchase a pair of each color. I was slightly worried about the pocket size comment, but found there is no problem at all.
I am currently in Brno, Czech Republic and the charcoal pants, drying in the bathroom as usual, will be ready in the morning for business meetings. I have been a member of REI since 1976 and these are the best pants for anything I'll ever have the enthusiasm to try. They have been worn in comfort as I visited Mother Theresa's room in Kolkata during a hot monsoon rain, and as I toured a hot dry foundry in Shahabad southern India.
They have performed well as casual, travel, hiking, business meeting and semi-formal pants with suit jacket and bowtie. On this trip they have been to Lisbon, Amstardam, Beijing, Wuhan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Kolkata, Durgapur, Shahabad, Hydrabad, Frankfert, Vienna and Brno.
These are the best pants for home use or anywhere on the planet.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I wear these pants all the time and love them. Very comfortable and wonderful casual wear. But they use very low quality zippers. I've returned two already, and a third one is starting to break. Also, I wish they had more color choices.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
If you want a pair of pants that are not baggy with lumpy zip-off legs, Crocodile hunter wantabe cargo pockets all over, yet offer an ample number of secure, zippered pockets and a tasteful casual styling that looks at home either on the trail or in a nice restuarant, these are the pants for you. Great for lite adventure travels - I wore them on the Inca trail and in nice restuarants in Peru. Lightweight, but substantial, washed easily and dried quickly, resisted wrinkles, good colors, nice fit, fair price - couldn't ask for more. I have pants from three other major brands that I tried before these that are now banished to the back of the closet.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
These pants are good for travel and outdoor applications. They're lightweight, they pack easily, they dry quickly, and have interesting pockets.
However, and this is a big however, they attract lint like no other, and they stick to my shins A LOT. They look like poorly cut bell-bottoms when they stick to my legs making it look really stupid.
I think being able to wash these pants with a dryer sheet would alleviate that, but the care instructions specify not to use a softener, etc.
If I didn't have them hemmed I would consider returning them because wearing this is actually unsatisfying.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Zippers are very thin, and easily jump off track. I would not trust them for travel or hiking. My wallet caused a leg pocket zipper to split open while it was zipped shut. I'm glad it wasn't the fly zipper, which is of the same flimsy quality. The fabric itself, while comfortable, holds static cling and sticks to one's shins. Never hold a cat or pet a dog while wearing these pants!

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I have two pair of these and am ordering a third, all in different colors. They are tough but attractive. The top right zipper pocket along the seam is perfect for my cell phone without being noticible. Very comfortable to wear without looking or feeling like nylon. Casual but adequately dressy for the work place or school.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I dig 'em. The first thing I noticed was that they are a little snug in the waist for their size. I ordered a little big so that I could layer underneath, but they ended up fitting perfect.
The pocket zippers go the wrong way. This is a pet peeve of mine. Outdoor gear needs pocket zippers that are DOWN when closed.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I have three pair: green, black and tan and they are are often my only pants when travelling.
They pack very thin and you can shake any wrinkles out.
I think the construction is fine. I have worn these pants over and over in various conditions and have not yet experienced tears or zipper malfunctions.
I use the leg pockets for the cell phone. The leg pockets are hidden and don't look dorky like safari pants.
Super comfortable, light, dry fast. I bike to work in them.
I too have worn them to a nice restaurant.
It's true, the black ones show all the lint, annoying.
Why did they discontinue green?! The green version does not show lint. Would love a medium dark blue.

Comments about REI Adventures Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
These are seriously the smallest pockets I have ever dealt with in a pair of men's pants. The front pocket is not deep enough for a ballpoint pen. Don't expect to be able to keep anything heavy in the front pockets, cellphones drop out when leaning over, sitting down.
Feel is very comfortable, nice surface for nylon pants (more of a soft cotton texture, not the slick nylon parachute-pant texture). But styling and cut are a little too casual for travel pants (thankfully, they didn't add the horrifically tacky cargo pockets).
Cleaner styling, normal or deep pockets, 7 belt loops combined with existing comfort would all make this a perfect travel pant.
