This book is meant to bring climbers some knowledge of how climbing has affected them as athletes.

  • Authors: Thomas Hochholzer and Volker Schoeffl
  • Softcover; 230 pages; black-and-white photographs
  • It is also meant to help them understand physiologically what is going on with their body as they climb and train
  • It gives a good base knowledge that can be taken to a doctor or physiotherapist when the climber thinks he/she is suffering from an injury or syndrome

As medicine for climbers is still in its infancy (relative to other sports), many doctors might not realize what levels of stresses are being placed on the body. A climber's personal knowledge of what might be happening will help the doctor make an informed decision and point him/her down the correct road to recovery. That said, this book is not to be used for self-diagnosis or personal treatment recommendations. Any problems should be looked at by a trained professional as the exact diagnosis is very difficult to make. This book is intended to help a climber understand that diagnosis.
