Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
I purchased these gaiters as a replacement for my Outdoor Research Verglas which exploded into a million pieces on a practice self-arrest. These gaiters have been far tougher and resilient than I would have expected for the price. The Cordura lower legging goes a long ways towards fending off errant crampon spikes. They have protected my pants and legs, kept me warm and looked dang good while doing so. The bottom line is unless you're climbing Everest, and even if you are, these gaiters will cut the mustard.

Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
I used these on my job in wind blown rain under rain pants and over rubbers and my footwear stayed perfectly dry. I had no sweat buildup. The breathability was excellent. Using them under normal circumstances, I liked them because the whole gaiter was breathable and not just one section. You also can't beat the price. They worked for me.

Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
These gaiters have so far survived three mountain ascents (St. Helens, Adams, Pilchuck) with only minimal amounts of wear on the bottom strap. Environmental protection has so far been excellent keeping out all of the rocks, ice and snow/rain (respectively) that they have encountered.

Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
I wrote a review in 11/07 and found these to the job when I used these on my job. I went hiking on a muti-day trip to New Hampshire's White Mountains in June 2008 and had trouble with the clasp staying on the strap even to the point where one of the hooks came out of the clasp and the opposite one bent backwards. Also the sleeve where the strap attaches could have a 2nd slit opening so that nothing pulls the strap out when walking, both problems I had on this trip. Otherwise these gaiters are great.

Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
I have used these gaiters in rain, mud and snow. They performed well and show little wear. I have not been gentle with them, and they have stood up to the test. The cost is excellent for the value. I wouldn't expect to find anything any better. If you do, expect to pay much more.

Comments about REI Mountain Gaiters:
these gaiters are bombproof and live up the REI rep. I live in S. Oregon and use them several times a week in winter months in various activities. I took them to the summits of Mt. Shasta & Rainer. The flexible lowers make for a sure fit keeping snow out.
