Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

I started using these at week long resident scout camps. I put them on at 6 AM and don't take my boots off till after 10PM and walk around all day in summer heat. The only parts of me that aren't sore at the end of the day are my feet. They are a little bulky but the padding is worth it.

I don't wear them often enough to comment on shrink or durability. My son has the regular weight hikers and wears them year round too.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

I've had the same four pairs for 4 years now and have worn nothing else. They have also been around the world on a 6-month backpacking trip. They are just beginning to show wear. They dry quickly, wick well, and don't smell at all even after repeated wears.

I wash them at most every other wear so as not to wear them down. I also ALWAYS hang dry them. Wool should never be put in the dryer.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

i got these and the low top version years ago and they are still kickin (cant say that about any of the other socks that have come and gone during their life) aside from the black hole that steals socks from the dryer, mine have handled constant drier action for years. all you others that go through the trouble of hangin them out are taking a unnecessary step. awesome socks

      An OK alternative for Smartwool

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

An somewhat comfortable, and less expensive alternative to Smartwool, these socks work, but not well enough. The REI Light Hikers have a tendancy to bunch and wear. They don't last as long as Smartwool and aren't quite as comfortable, but are definately a much better altwernative to cotton. In comparison to cotton socks, they last much longer, fit much better, and are much more comfortable. When the heels and toes wear out, in about 9 months or so of daily use, I suggest just stitching them back up, good as new. This reduces socks in landfills and saves you some cash. Heels and toes are really the big wear problem.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

These socks are really nice. They keep your feet dry when you would otherwise have sweaty socks and they are comfortable. The price is good and it's nice that there is more than just one color. I like them for hiking and everyday use (especially in winter). As long as you wash and dry them according to the directions on the package, they seem to hold up well. Bought a pair last year and just bought a few more.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

Comfortable, insulative (warm when you need it, but not warming), durable, and less expensive than SmartWool. What more could you want? I think these are a little too light for heavier backpacking.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

I've purchased many brands of wool/ merino wool socks over the years and these are just about as good as the higher priced labels. They do shrink up a bit in the wash so if you're at the top end of the size, you might considered bumping up one.

The comfort is amazing just as all merino wools socks are.
They seem to be on par, as far as durablity goes, with other brands of socks. They all get a little fuzzy after repeated washings.
I've also bought the seconds and found them to be great for everday wear.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker II Socks:

This sock is decent. They do shrink a little but not bad. The fit is a little off but I have put some miles on them and they stand up well. Is true what they say that you should wear a good sock when in the outdoors.
