The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
I've paddled lots of canoes growing up and with the Scouts - this OT beats them all. I bought this over 10 years ago and am looking at another. It's been great on flat to rough water, on small ponds to large lakes in CO & WY. Easily loaded / portaged / unloaded by me. I'd like the 17' one next but this one is going strong. Good capacity, speed, handling, and durability. Wood fittings are all in great shape, some dings in the gunwales, a few marks in the hull, but all thru long hours of enjoyment. A wonderful boat!

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
Doesn't have quite the cargo capacity, and is not quite as stable, as our Mad River Explorer 16, but this canoe is swifter and easier to paddle. Although both boats are Royalex, this boat is not quite as tough due to aluminum gunwales. But the Penobscot performs better as a solo canoe than the Explorer...paddling from the bow instead of the stern. Took it out solo for 8 days on Utah's Green River, and it was a great tripper...handled well and as fast as other boats with two paddlers aboard.

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
We use our boat primarily on windy lakes of CA. Handles beautifully in flat water or windy, wavy conditions. Light enough to easily load on our pick up truck.

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
I canoe the surf and lakes. I used to do whitewater. I've done class IV in a discovery and have pictures to prove it. A couple of friends have Penabscots and I've been using shear grit to keep up with them for many years. This light weight perfectly designed canoe is heaven. Price was not a consideration in this choice. This is just the best canoe available.

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
I've used the Penobscot on large wide rivers, small rivers with plenty of turns and obstacles, and lakes in just about every imaginable weather conditions. It tracks well on flat water, yet is quite maneuverable in rapids. While it's best for I and II rapids, it can handle III with the right paddlers. Similarly, it's an awesome day tripper, but if you pack carefully, can be a good multi-day canoe. This boat is no speed demon, but it's stability and responsiveness makes up for what you lose in speed.

Great Canoe for Multi Day Trips. Lightweight and Rugged. It scratches easily but that just shows that it gets used and it will take abuse for many years!

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
I hated rental canoes and gave up on canoes, got this Old Town as a gift and it changed my perspective on canoes, this is fast, stable and comfortable. The canoe instills confidence. My wife and I are planning our vacation around this canoe. Other canoes where so tippy, this one is extrememly stable. Can't wait for our 5 day canoe trip!!!

Comments about Old Town Penobscot 16 Canoe:
I bought my canoe used from a white water outfit in VA. I used contact cement to glue a couple of those foam float pads that people lie on in the pool into the bottom of it. This provided a soft place to kneel as well as making it impossible to sink.
For 2 summers I practically lived out of it. # and 4 day camping trips with my girlfriend and all the supplies Lewis and Clark could have wanted. I would take both of my dogs out regularly and always had a great time. The canoe handled beautifully no mater how full or empty it was. Sadly while I was away from home for the winter it was stolen from behind my trailer. I haven't been able so far to afford to replace it. I miss that canoe terribly.
