As a professional Apache helicopter pilot, this is the best headlamp I've ever owned. The white light is perfect for pre-flighting and gathering all my gear into helmet and pubs bags after the mission. The red light is great in the cockpit for referencing kneeboard without washing out life-critical night vision. I can slip it down around my neck when my flight helmet is on and it's handy. No having to dig into pockets when you're strapped in or having a flashlight rolling around the cockpit. Great durability and battery life. Great for moving around in a giant tent at night without disturbing all the other hooahs. I've had many others that all had major drawbacks. I can't live without this light. Feel like buying another just in case!

This may seem like a strange recommendation, but...

This headlamp makes all the difference when feeding and changing my our new twins in the middle of the night. A friend lent us hers while she stayed with us. We almost stole it. The amber lens makes it possible to do the entire feeding/changing without turning on the lights. Makes it MUCH easier to get the babies back to bed.

Received as a gift from wife for use when 4-wheeling, camping, working on my truck after dark, on or off the trail. While this is my first headlamp, I am astounded with the utility purposes it offers; light, comfortable, long battery life, and large lighting area. I use the lamp all the time as an all-purpose hands-free lamp.

This headlamp can take a real beating and the flip down red lens helps keep the LEDs from getting damaged. The elastic headband has plenty of adjustability and wears well; unless you have a head larger in circumference than a watermelon it will fit. I've had mine since these first came out two years ago, and it's still in great shape. The tilting function is great since it focuses the beam right where you need it. The only thing I don't like about the lamp is that it uses AAA batteries, which can be harder to find than AA batteries in some places. Those three batteries last a VERY long time, however, and I usually replace the batteries about every six months with heavy use.

This is the second headlamp I have used as a general aviation pilot. The filter is perfect for maintaining night vision while flying at night. The step down intensity levels are great too. The white light is perfect for evening pre-flight/post flight.

I have been using this headlamp for 2 years now and am on the 3rd set of batteries. This has become my all in one flashlight. Small, very long battery life, and more than enough power for any activity except long distance night spotting. The only 'con' I would give this item is that newer models have slightly better beam range although this unit is more than sufficient. Very few other headlamps have a red filter which is ESSENTIAL when outdoors. It is too easy to turn to the person talking behind you and destroy their night vision without it.

This is just waht it is...a good lamp at an expensive price for what it is. Pretty reliable and mine has seen the bottom of a creekbed or two and still works like a charm. Burns thru. batteries a bit quick though and the brightness is nowhere close to that of what they advertise it at. You have approx a good ten ft of usable light range with this lamp.

This is a great basic lamp that stays put on your head and makes everything easier at night and it's light and doesn't take up much room in a backpack and has plenty of power. The red filter really works to save night vision. I have not had to change the batteries yet after a week long trip and a month of reading by it. Would like to have more guaruntee of water resistance like a dive lamp and an adjustable beam but it is already more than I need out of a light.

At first, I didn't want to spend the extra money on a headlamp only to get the red filter. I'm glad I did, as you get to move around at night without feeling like you're bothering everybody else in camp. Something you wish everybody had, when you're fast asleep and some bozo you're with is absent mindedly shining his light right in your face as he tries to find his shoes to take a wizz at 3:00am.
