Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

Packs down to a tiny size. Amazing for a 4 season pad. It can take quite a while to self-inflate. You're best off setting up camp and leaving the pad to inflate while you cook/change/whatever. If you do try to expedite the process by blowing air into it, be careful not to over-inflate it. It can make the pad really uncomfortable and give you soreness in the morning.

Slept on a hill both times I've used this so far and had very little problems with slippage of the pad or my bag on the pad.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

This is a great sleeping pad. Been using the ProLite 4 for the last two years (12 outings)during early spring, summer, early fall; 2-3 days weekend backpacking adventures in the Sierras. Very comfortable, lightweight, and good insulating ability. Does not slip from under sleeping bag. I thought it would inflate a lot quicker, however not a big problem, as soon as we find camp I take it out, unroll it and let it inflate on its own while we go explore the surroundings or have dinner, by bedtime it is inflated, just tighten the inflation port cap and its ready. You can increase the firmness by inflating it by mouth in one breath by blowing into it. Note: read somewhere that too much breath inflation may add humidity inside the pad which could affect its 'self-inflating properties'.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

....people are stuck on getting a Thermarest. I worked at an outfitting store and always tried to get people to try an air pad, especially for side sleepers who have more chance of bottoming out a "self-inflatable". I own both and wouldn't let my friends buy one of these for these reasons alone: A) they're overpriced, B) it doesn't self inflate and for few puffs more you'll be guaranteed not to bottom out, C) they're heavier and more bulky than almost all air pads including those internal insulation and D) check the r-value (heat transfer to ground) of this unit its not even close to air pads because you're always touching the ground. The only time I recommended these pads is if you customers had a sense of instability (rolling) on the air pads. Most air pads are rigid when inflated properly and again the stability of a "self-inflatable" is created by the ground, sounds cold.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

Warm on snow, great padding on rough ground, and all around nice to take into the backcountry.

I have never had a hole in either of my Thermarests, but both of my wife's pads have had holes. The Thermarest patch kit works great to fix them.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

The best. But if I had to do it over again I'd get the large as i roll around a lot and I could go for a little more width. I'd settle for the extra weight. But hands down best pad. And it's a cheery orange.Look no further. It's very pricey but it's very comfy and will keep you warm on cold ground.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

This is a really good pad and the first time I used it was the first time I slept for a whole night outside. However the second time I used it on a trip in Colorado it would not hold air and I woke up on the ground an hour after I went to sleep then I couldn't sleep all night and it ruined my trip. I brought it back for an exchange and the new one has held up well so far. I have been on about 7 or 8 trips with the new one and love it so far. Packs up nice and small and insulates your from the ground excellently.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

Years ago when I first started camping I was one of those guys who would bring a full size air mattress with air pump and all thinking this was the only way to be comfortable. After a few years of my friends making fun of me I slowly became a minimalist. Now I only own therm-a-rest. This is a very comfortable mattress pad for the minimalist who love their comfort like me. It packs small and is very light. You can't go wrong with this one.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

I have to disagree with the last reviewer who had puncture problems. I just used this pad on a four-day rim-to-rim trek through the Grand Canyon, and it performed like a champ! I suspect the prior reviewer use it without a ground cover (I use my tent footprint, if I am not using the tent) and didn't check the ground for sharp objects.

All three nights of my trip, I slept on what amounts to gravel. I gave it a quick clean-up before I laid out the footprint, and I was amazed at how comfortable the pad was. Darn near like being in bed at home. And no problems with punctures.

A couple of noteworthy points: The pad isn't really self-inflating, but a few breaths does the trick nicely--a very easy inflate. And to get the pad back into its sack, you have to squeeze every last bit of air out of it. But once that's done, it's very compact.

In summary, a great pad. No hesitation recommending it to others.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

Pros: It’s a very comfortable pad and has ensured restful nights on a diverse array of surfaces. It’s also a great size. With other pads, arms or legs would often fall off... This pad provides adequate surface for both body and limbs. Deflated and tightly rolled, it takes up about the same amount of room in my bag as my rolled-up fleece.

Cons: It takes a good degree of brute force to roll the pad tightly enough so that it doesn’t take up too much room inside my bag. My wife, who isn’t as brawny as me, made the strategic deal that she stuffs my sleeping bag if I roll her pad. In addition to the arm and power that it takes to get the pad rolled, it also takes some lung power to get the pad well-inflated.

Summary: It’s lightweight and rolls-up compactly. While it takes me less time to assemble or dissemble my tent than it does to fully inflate or deflate and roll-up this pad, it has become essential to a restful sleep.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular:

I am an ultralight backpacker, total gear under 8lbs. However, if i ever want my wife to hike with me i need to make sure she sleeps great. She takes this pad and loves it. With a few other compramises she is able to take this HUGE pad and a chair kit and still carryu <10lbs of gear. I love how great this pad is for her. It's comfortable, packable, and relatively light (for what it is, my pad is 3oz). This is a great pad and it has kept me my favorite hiking partner.
