Comments about Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pack:
This survival kit is a nearly perfect compromise between the conflicting requirements of providing a good array of quality items that work well and can really help you in a survival situation while maintaining a small, conveniently-carried size, light weight and reasonable cost. This kit could be easily improved after purchase by the addition of a very small butane cigarette lighter which will provide a far greater number of potential fire lighting attempts and also the addition of a micro-sized flashlight such as the Photon Micro Light, for instance. Both of these items can fit inside the survival kit's pouch. These points and others are covered in the instructions. However, this kit as shipped, even without additions, is a complete and very useful product and no modifications are truly necessary. The sheet of survival instructions carried within the kit is a masterpiece of concise, useful, comprehensive and easily understood information. Every detail of this kit has been painstakingly designed to an almost obsessive level by Doug Ritter, who is arguably the foremost expert in survival preparedness. You can gain an appreciation of this fact by visiting his website, [@], which has a wealth of free survival related information including an exahustive explanation of the design of this kit, why this particular assortment of items is included, how each item was chosen or designed from scratch for this kit, and how to use each one.Every adventure into the wild should be accompanied by a survival kit like this, whether it is a full-blown expedition or merely a family picnic or day-hike. All it takes is a bad stumble or a turn down the wrong trail with fading daylight to create a situation where these items could be potentially life-saving and of great comfort.Resist the temptation to think that more is better when it comes to wilderness survival equipment. The single biggest problem with emergency equipment of any kind is that it is absolutely useless unless it is available when needed. A slim few ounces of essential gear in your shirt pocket is far better than a pound of useful equipment that you left at home. The AM kit addresses this problem by being both affordable and also small and light enough to be comfortably carried in any pocket. But it is up to you to actually drop it in your pocket.

Comments about Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pack:
Pros:
The Pocket Survival Pack has some very useful items in it. Since none of us were programmed from birth with how to survive the unexpected, this kit and some practice with its contents will greatly improve your ability to be found if you get lost, stranded on the road less traveled, or become separated from family members.
Best of all its size and weight make it very convenient to put it in your pocket and forget it is there until you need it. Maybe a bear runs off with you pack and other supplies, or you kayak overturns and you loose your other gear, you will be far better off with this pack in your pocket than without its contents.
Cons:
This kit does not cover all possible survival situations, but is a great start for personal safety, and the safety of loved ones.
Note: This kit is reseal able so you can read, practice and reread the instructions. In addition some of the items are consumable (i.e. will be used up if you truly practice with them, so you may want to buy two, or you can get inventive on how to restock things like the aluminum foil, or the Spark-Light Firestarter and Tinder.
On a final note the vinyl pouch the kit is contained in has a place to attach a lanyard to, so if it does fall out of those summer shorts you can sill have it tied to you belt.
Comments about Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pack:
As of October, 2008, the photo of this product only shows the contents of the kit and not the container, for some reason. The kit comes in a durable, clear waterproof pouch with a ziplock-style closure that is made of thick vinyl and is the same one used in the other Adventure Medical kits such as the Pocket Medic, Travel Medic and CPR Medic kits. It makes a relatively lightweight, low-bulk kit that carries well in a pocket.

Comments about Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pack:
This is a great little first aid kit that I will hopefully never need to use. I added a fire-steel, water treatment tablets, a razor, some fishing line and a few more little split weights, and some matches (because you can never have too many ways to start a fire). It's so compact that I just slipped it into my first aid kit and threw it in a secret compartment in my backpack. Now when we go trekking I feel a little bit more prepared for the many impossibilities that could occur.
