Comments about General Electric Steelbeam Krypton Lantern:
We were using it to sit outside in the evenings and it suddenly stopped working. I replaced the batteries to no avail. Must be the bulb or if it's really good for 800 hours...maybe the switch.BUT...how do you get at the bulb?? or switch??
It's sealed so tight it must be considered a throw-away item!!! That doesn't sound like something REI would endorse. Anyone know how to get at the bulb and/or switch??

Comments about General Electric Steelbeam Krypton Lantern:
I liked the design and is simple to use, but it takes four D cells. Once the bulb burned out, it has been hard to find another. Don't just toss it out, keep it for reference and when you find a replacement, buy two and tell me where you got it!

Comments about General Electric Steelbeam Krypton Lantern:
Lets face it, gas lanterns are far too dangerous to use in tents. They are too hot and produce carbon monoxide gas. The only way to safely light up a tent is with a battery lantern. This lantern puts out enough light for a large tent, but the batteries in it make it a little heavy to carry around. A nice feature of this one is the hanging hook built into the handle.

Comments about General Electric Steelbeam Krypton Lantern:
I had this lantern though the San Diego wild fires in 2007. Our power was out for 7 day and I used this lantern that whole time. I didn't even have to change the battary! I have also had it for YEARS! 6 to be exact. It has also held up to my son who uses it the most and has never had a problem. The Best! Would give it 20 stars if i could

Comments about General Electric Steelbeam Krypton Lantern:
For the price, this seems to be a great product. Other lanterns were more than twice as much. The retractable hook in the handle makes it easy to use in the tent, suspended from the overhead aluminum frame. We even dropped it in the dirt a few times, with no problems. Downside, it is a bit heavy and the light output is not the brightest I've seen...I'd still recommend it.
