The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
I bought this rack to install on a used hybrid Giant bike. I didn't have any Hex wrenches so the REI bike shop had it installed in 15 minutes ($22~), which is nice.
Adding 10 to 15 pounds to the rack makes the bike ride smoother, which is a cool benefit of having a rack and/or basket.
I bought the matching black Topeak basket that slides onto the rail and locks. Works well and is secure, though the handle on the basket shook itself off and fell into and bended around the cassette. Poor design there. The basket also sits very close the the posterior perimeter, and at times I wish the rack/basket were an inch lower. I raised my bike seat angle so it's not a big deal but this is a factor I had not considered and there might be better options out there.
Rack = good, is very "rack-like" and I look forward to hanging things on it in the future.
Basket = works but the handle is useless. I'd just rip the thing off before it rattles free and blinds a chicken

I mounted this to my Cannondale Qucik 4 in about 30 minutes. It was necessary to use a socket wrench to hold the nut while turning the hex head bolt. The light mounting hardware included didn't work with my rear light (CatEye), but the light itself came with hardware that worked. I'm using a single Novarra Round Town pannier. This fits perfectly and does not get hit by my heels.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
Have put these on every bike I own and have owned. Only drawback is that the light clip on the rear isnt as tough and thick as the rest of the rack. But I dont use the clip anyway, so no big deal for me.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
This was very easy to install (<5min). Very stable, a little heavy but that comes with the strength for the price. Works great with my panniers.
I asked an REI online associate to recommend a rack for my specific bike model and this is the one that was recommended to me.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
I love this rack, it allows me to do so much more on my bike! I agree with some of the comments that it was a little time consuming to install. I think it might have been easier with a second set of hands to hold in place while I tweaked & adjusted. Other than that, it just screwed into place!
My biggest complaint is it is not easily compatable with other brands. I have a Novara pannier that just barely fits, and none of my exitsting bike lights will work with this rack. Otherwise, it is a very sturdy rack to strap things onto!

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
The bracket mounting hardware that came with the rack did not match my bike nor did the brackets themselves. After a trip to the hardware store and a little bit of work with an angle grinder, it went right on. Very durable and rock solid once mounted.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
I originally bought this rack for my bike, but wanted to switch it to my wife's bike. Unfortunately, because it is a female-specific bike, it did not have the front stays in which to attach the rack. After a little research, I found a very inexpensive "monostay rack adapter" that attaches to her seat post. The rack attaches to the adapter with no problems. I am again a happy camper, who loves this rack, especially in conjunction with the quick-release bag with side paniers!

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
This is a great bike rack. When it comes to bike racks there are a ton of options out there, this one differentiates itself by adding a 'system' of accessories that slide into a track and quickly lock into place, so you don't have to bungee or Velcro down trunk bags or baskets. The caveat is that you must buy Topeaks' accessories to utilize the track system, but it may be worth it to you for the ease of use. Of course you can use any other manufactures stuff with bungees or Velcro just like any other bike rack. It was fairly easy to install, with the hardest part being attaching the extender brackets, since on my bike they had to be gently bent to fit properly. It was still easy to install, seems solid, and it looks great.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
Bought in 2006 and used for year-round commuting since 2007. I've ridden close to 8,000 miles with this rack on two different bikes without a problem. Last week I installed it on its THIRD bike.
I use this rack primarily for commuting and rarely carry over 15 pounds on it. However, I have no doubt that it could carry more if needed. Works well with many brands of bags and panniers. Having dual hook points is nice when using with bungee cords. I zip-tied a tail light to the reflector mount in 2008 and it's been holding tight.
The black finish is worn off in some places and the bracket hardware is a little corroded but those are the only issues. Very satisfied after five years of ownership.

Comments about Topeak Explorer MTX Rack:
Easy to mount. But follow the instructions, and remember that you will probably have to bend the little struts that attach to your bike. They are made to be bent, so that you can level the top of the rack.
Topeak makes bags that slip and lock into the track on top. It makes it even easier to use this rack. An ingenious system I wish they would license to other bag makers.
