        Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

It solves the problem of a water filter's tubes being too complicated to organize without contaminating the clean ones. Simply wear your Camelbak pack out into the water, and snap your mouthpiece off and snap the filter pump output hose on. Drop the dirty hose into the water and do your pumping. With this item you no longer need 5 hands to hold everything in place.

I wish the male hose adapter was available separately. (That's the part on the left in the photo above.) I need a couple more for several reasons:

        - I have two water filters: a pump style in my backpack and a base camp filter that is gravity fed while unattended. I need an extra connector for that.

        - This one is complicated (sorry). I am tall. That means a long torso. That means I must adjust the shoulder straps of my pack long to bring the pack down to rest properly on my hips. (That means fewer muscles must work to support and steady the pack while walking.) But that means the water tube comes up a couple inches short.

In addition, my new Camelbak hydration pack came with a real nifty right-angle mouthpiece, which I would like to keep. The filter adapter kit, however, is equipped to replace the right angle mouthpiece with a straight one. That means the hose would need to be another 4 to 6 inches longer to drink from it straight on, especially with the straight section of valve attached to it. That becomes a real hassle with that much hose and weighty gadgetry sticking out from your mouth, or swinging with your gait when not in use.

A real elegant solution to all of that would be to cut the hose about 3 or 4 inches above the right angle mouthpiece (check first with the pack on for a location that is high yet accessible), and insert the disconnect inline in the hose. That requires a hose nib on both ends of the disconnect. One extra disconnect-to-hose adapter (with hose barbs, the item on the left above) would be just the ticket.

Then the length of the valve is just enough to give me the exra hose length I need. I get to use the right angle mouthpiece. I can quick-connect to anything. While riding a bicycle, it is safer than having a pipe sticking straight out of your mouth that can be jambed back into your brain or throat if you take a spill. The weight of the valve is near your shoulder, not right at the end of a longer-than-necessary pendulum to smack you and smack you, or to get dirty. The mouthpiece adapter is no longer necessary. The unit could be used for all kinds of universal applications. And you could truthfully call me one happy camper. :-)

          Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

If you have a Camelback, this is a GREAT investment to go along with it. I have a Katadyan Hiker that came with a "bladder adapter". However, it did not fit the tube of my camelback. So I found this at my local backpacking store and tried it out. It serves a few purposes.
#1. It gives you a cutoff switch.
#2. It allows you to easily remove your bite piece just by clicking a button. This allows you to pour the water in your bladder out, like into a cooking pot, or a water bottle.
#3. Makes pumping filtered water into your bladder EASY! Just clip off your bite piece, clip in the filter attachment, and viola! Pump fresh water into the bladder!

          Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

I used this on my last backpacking trip. It was great to just stop, disconnect the mouthpiece and connect a hose that connected directly to my filter. No unpacking the pack, no rerouting hoses. It has a rather large diameter and was tough to get through my backpack's hydration port. But another quick disconnect on the inside of the pack would eliminate the need to constantly reroute the outside hose and fitting. Biggest downside was that it was hard to tell when your hydration bladder was full, since it was still hidden in the pack.

            Comments about CamelBak Filter Adapter:

water bladders are great, but a hassle to fill. This attachment eliminates any filling problems, and you actually never have to look at the bladder again (except to determine how much you have left). Once at camp, you can hang your pack from a tree or whatever, and use the hose for a faucet by removing the bite valve. This attachment fits on my MSR hose/bite valve, and will probably fit most of the others as well. Brilliant idea!

This is so much easier than having to take the bladder out of the pack (which might entail some unpacking) and then hold the bladder while pumping into it.

This is an awesome filter attachment, perfect for backpacking, day hiking, or even doing some epic mountain bike rides. It just awesome to filter water without having to take out the bladder! Just remember to turn the adapter valve ON prior to pumping, otherwise the pump will go crazy on you.
