Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I'm tall and thin, so I usually end up with clothes that are boxy and look stupid. This shirt is sized for people with shoulders wider than their waist, so the fit was great. The sleeves were a little short for me, but I'm used to that.
I wore the shirt for 30 days in a row while traveling in South East Asia. I sweated all the time and washed it with cheap detergent in the sink at night. Never looked wrinkled or weird. It was comfortable to wear on airplanes and in taxi cabs and when just walking around. It was slightly hot, but that might have just been because I wore the dark blue one. I crashed a motorbike while wearing the shirt and only got a small tear on the sleeve, so the fabric seems durable. The sun protection was a life saver. It can retain odor, but this is basically true with all synthetic shirts in 90% humidity.
The placement and size of the pockets are ideal for all the stuff you need when traveling. A great choice for people who like to pack light.
You can trek around in it during the day and then wear it to a cafe at night without looking like the ugly American.
This would be perfect if:
- it had bug repellant.
- the sleeves were slightly longer.
- the shirt were slightly longer so it would stay tucked in better.

I live in Saudi Arabia where it can be more than 125 F for weeks and months. This has been tested in the desert and the coast with great results. Good fit, dries fast, good pocket capacity.

I run in Scottsdale, AZ and it's often 100+ degrees. Recently running in 105 degrees with this shirt on it performed top of the line. I didn't feel like I had a drop of sweat on me for the 5 miles I ran and I honestly thought somehow they had sewn in some kind of fans or a/c into the yoke of the shirt because so much air flow what circulating from the front and rear!!! It is amazing. Not to mention a very stylish outdoors shirt. Buy it. I bought one in each color I loved it so much.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I've had two of these shirts about a year now and 've used them a lot as casual shirts (wife doesn't think they look good on the street) and every time I hit the trails.
I'm not sure if it is just nylon shirts but the fabric on this particular shirt started pilling after a very short time. It doesn't make the shirt look that good on the the street but who cares when you're outdoors. Next time I buy hiking/traveling shirts I'll plan on trying a different brand.

Awesome is the only word that comes to mind. I bought 2 of these in 2 different colors. The fit is perfect in every way. I love how good they look. They are super cool so hot summer days are no problem. Very lightweight and even compressible in case you have to stuff it into your sack. Work great with a light layer underneath and even a layer over all that. Love em!!

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I had my doubts about clothes with SPF protection, but this shirt has settled that for me. On a hot day, I removed this shirt briefly and quickly started to feel the effects of the sun on my skin. Oddly, when I put it back on, I felt as though I cooled down.
Beyond the built in SPF, the shirt is very comfortable and lightweight. I've toured cities, forests, towns, even Yosemite with this shirt and it has never let me down. It has the perfect amount of pocket space, great air flow, and it truly protects you from the sun.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I needed a few shirts for traveling light.
I picked this one.
In terms of utility this shirt is really nice. It converts to a "short" sleeve easily, it is light, It is comfortable.
The first time I took the shirt off my wife notice3d that it was pilling around the shoulders.
This is clearly visible. So if you plan on wearing this shirt out wear a coat or jacket because it will instantly have a worn look.
I am disappointed. REI must have read these reviews. (I hadn't). Had they they would have learned that there was a problem with the 100% nylon fabric, that possibly a cotton blend might be a better choice for this shirt.
Unfortunately I suspect that I will be taking this shirt back to REI. Mine is the Khaki color. I read in another review that the other colors may wear differently. I will try.
REI has a shirt which only misses the mark by a small margin. The way a fabric wears is a top priority for me. If it is pilling then it is wearing if it is wearing this fast then this shirt can not last long, especially under heavy wear. If I do change for a different color I will report the results here.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I bought one of these shirts with minimal expectations. Suffice to say, I own four now and I love them. The ONLY problem I have had is with the light khaki colored one... it seems to fray a bit easier than the others. I even find myself wearing them to the office because if it's warm, they cool you down, but if it's cool, they keep you warm. I LOVE these shirts.

Comments about REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's:
I got four of these, along with two pair of the Sahara tech pants, for a two-week stay in D.R. Congo.
I'm not normally a very tanned person, and while traveling just below the equator, the only places that did tan were my face and hands. The shirt was light and breathable enough to wear with the sleeves down, keeping off sun and mosquitoes.
The pockets, with their compartments were really impressive--especially the big, zippered pocket within a pocket for keeping passports and other things that would ruin a trip if stolen.
I could leave the shirts packed tightly for 48 hours and then after hanging them up overnight they would be wrinkle-free. Perfect for the kind of work we were doing.
The cons came on after getting back. There is a little bit of pilling where my back was constantly rubbing the landcruiser seats, and it took a lot to get the smell of mosquito coils out.
Glad to see though, that REI has listened and added a couple of colors. I wish they had had more than tank and chalk two months ago!
