Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
These boots are REALLY warm and have great traction. They also have support inside the shoe and an extra - thick outer sole, unlike the Sorel products my husband and I have, so they're comfortable for longer and you don't feel every rock you step on. My only complaint is that they're stiff on the top, so the front and back of my lower shin get a little chafed after I'm in them for a while. My husband said his Sorel Caribou's were like that too, you just have to wear them in a little. Other than that, they're awesome. I will be looking for another boot though that's a little taller, as I live in snow that will get deeper than these boots are tall.

Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
As mentioned in some of the previous reviews, there is definitely a problem at the junction of the ankle (especially the right, where I had a very tender bruise) after a few hours of walking. I live in an area that gets lots of snow and -20 temps and far as keeping your feet warm, I have had better success with Sorels. Generally, good grip on icy patches but the ankle "problem" is a nuissance. I'm unsure if this will be resolved with more wear.

Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
I really like that in general and for the first few hours entirely, these boots are very comfortable. I hiked up a ski hill in them, walked in the rain through puddles, went snowshoeing and did general winter hiking in them and they were great. after about two hours of wear though they leave a large bruise on my right ankle, hopefully will go away as they are broken in more and more.

Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
The footbed feels great when you try them on but BEWARE. After a few hours use, the piping on the upper shank will start to put such pressure on your lateral malleolus [ankle] and extensor tendon that it's unbearable. I limped home and couldn't hike for a couple days. Unable to stretch, mold since it's not leather but plastic. Never again!

Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
I used these boots for the first time, we went to Yosemite for a week, in the winter.. used the boot just for walking around the valley, as well as snowshoeing, and on trails that were packed down with snow, with trekking poles. It had pretty good traction, fit right onto the snowshoes without difficulty. Comfortable, water tight, through a day of slushing through wet snow (with gaiters). It is rated to -45 degrees, but my feet did get cold in the mornings, when it was about ?20 degrees. Make sure you wear socks that are higher than the upper portion of the boot, or your calves may get chaffed. I wear size 6.5 normally, with this boot, size 6.5, I used a medium cusion sock, which was perfect.. the lighter cusion sock, had a little too much wiggle room. I would recommend it.

I was surprised to read the not-so-positive reviews here. These boots have excellent traction, are absolutely watertight, and very warm even with medium weight socks on. Aside from using them to walk through parking lots and around the neighborhood, I used them while hiking and snowshoeing in Bryce Canyon (8,000' elev) in February. It's a plus that there's a ridge on the back heel to secure straps for snowshoes.
I agree the ankle could be a little more flexible, which is why I docked one star. I'm not wearing them all day long, so it hasn't been an issue for me. Aside from that, these boots are awesome.

Comments about The North Face Chilkat Winter Boots - Women's:
Boots were great and warm for the first year then lost their originally good insulating properties by maybe, 60%, after that they went downhill. I wouldn't buy another pair.
