        Riding to work in Minneapolis the Pearl Izumi ThermaFleece works well keeping my ears warm in thirty degree weather. As the temperature dips I'll wear more but for weather around the freezing point with a medium wind...this is good.

          I use this when it is too cold to not protect my ears but too warm for the balaclava. It fits well under the helmet (after adjustment) and protects your ears. Can't say it is awesome though because it does slip occasionally.

          Tried this after I found that the Pearl Izumi hat is too small and kept slipping up into my helmet. Definitely keeps you warm, and has tiny holes above the ears to slip sunglasses through, which is brilliant. Unfortunately, my head is too small for it and it slips as it gets sweaty. I wish they made it in sizes, because it kept my ears toasty without overheating. Oh well.
