Comments about Wigwam Hiking / Outdoor Pro Socks:
I bought my first batch of these socks when they were called Ultimax® Hiking/Outdoor, sometime around 1997. By 1998 I had a half dozen crew, and a half dozen low. I wore them practically every day I wore socks for about 8 years, until I had to wear dress shoes. I continued to wear them every day I wasn't playing dress up for work. Now, 2011, I'm down to 3 pairs of crew, and two pairs of mini. Only one sock broke a seam on the toe, the rest were worn through the bottom. That's how long these socks wear. Bought 3 new pair about 6 months ago. Wow, new socks are so cushy, why did I wait? They fit the same, and perform just as well as the originals. Check back in 2021 for an update.Over the years, I've tried nearly every brand of sock REI has offered. And there are many outstanding examples. But for a "go anywhere do anything" sock - this one is my favorite. I have hot feet, and I love the desert. There is not a sock on the planet that will keep my feet truly dry in high temperatures, but this sock does the best job of pulling moisture up out of the shoe to evaporate from the ankle. It literally siphons the moisture out. Great design. And quick drying - when I'm backpacking I can wash them at night and wear them the next day. I've even had to put them on damp and they dried while wearing them - no blisters. And the clincher: excellent value[...]

Comments about Wigwam Hiking / Outdoor Pro Socks:
Good breathability, quick drying, excellent fit, they stay in place and don't shrink. One of the very few socks on the market that hold up to SEVERE wear and tear (my heal eats through the back of socks and shoes like you wouldn't believe). Other brand name socks don't compare to their durability. I only wish they made merino wool socks this tough.
Bonus: they look great with jeans for in town use.

I bought 7 pair of these in 2006. Since then, I've been wearing them with my Keenes (sandal). In the last 4 years I've worn them 90% of the time and they haven't frayed or developed holes even once, and the elastic is still firm. How a sock can last that long is beyond me. They're also as comfy as can be. I like the khaki and charcoal colors because they look good with about anything you wear. Almost the only downside is they require a cold water wash, but chances are you have a lot of other cold water stuff you can make up a wash load with.

Comments about Wigwam Hiking / Outdoor Pro Socks:
These socks are very comfortable and certainly feel good. However, if you have "hot" feet, I wouldn't expect much moisture control from these. After some daily wear and a casual hike in my new Asolo's, my feet felt moist in these, and the socks were moist to the touch. They are more comfy than the smart wool socks, but do not perform as well in the moisture control department.

I bought two pairs of these. A hole developed in the sole of the first pair after wearing them maybe half-a-dozen times. The second pair lasted only a little longer. They were comfortable but ultimately a complete waste of money.

I put 21 miles on these guys while on the AT trail and loved their performance! Comfortable, durable, kept my feet dry, and no blisters!

On a business trip to San Francisco (packing light), one of my 2 pairs of socks ripped... luckily the REI store was only a 15 minute walk from the convention center, so I walked over there...the only "light weight" halfway good looking sock, not thick/bulky, was this Ultimax (Khaki color). They feel great. I always buy at least 2 pairs of socks so if I lose one sock I still have a useable pair. So I bought 2 then. I now like enough I am ordering 3 pairs online. Not cheap but so what, if they are so useful and last years.

I now use ultimax for most of my hiking & all of my backpacking. They wick moisture very well and do not lose their loft as quickly as many other socks. I still have other socks that perform well, but ultimax are my all-around favorites at ventilation & wicking. I recommend them to everyone who asks about socks. I even wear the colored ones to my business-casual work.
