Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

I wear these socks on a daily basis. They have held up well considering. They have thinned with time as well as bunched some after many washings. The bunching has detracted from their appearance. Despite being made of wool they have been comfortable in the heat on long days on my feet. Whether wearing boots or shoes they have been a much better alternative to cotton.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

The overall quality is good, and I have no doubt they will hold up over time. However, I do not usually wear a liner unless on a multi day trek, with this sock liners are a must. The design exposes part of your toe to the inside of the boot if worn by itself.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

Comfortable, insulative (warm when you need it, but not warming), durable, and less expensive than SmartWool. What mre could you want? I find these are a little too light for backpacking, but the expedition weight ones work well for that. It might just be me, though, because I know others find they work well for backpacking.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

Really nice, very comfy hiking socks. Work well with boots, trail runners, even use them with chaco sandals backpacking. Really soft to the touch, I think these merino wool socks are almost as good as the smartwool socks at a fraction of the cost.

These are great socks for serious hiking and packing. If the hike/trail is rough enough to put on boots then these are the socks for you. I can't imagine putting on my hiking boots without putting on these socks first.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

I wear these for hiking, everyday use, and work, sometimes I even put on a pair for sleeping if the night's a bit nippy. I wear them with hiking boots and with hiking/walking shoes. I use them in temperatures ranging from 32F to around 100+F. They last a long time, keep their shape, provide good cushioning and comfort in a variety of situations - all at a very good price.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

Was super jazzed about buying these socks for my last adventure to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Was super bummed when they seemed to stretch out (they heal of the sock was inching out of my boot) as the day progressed. I bought the ladies' medium as was suggested by the packaging based on my shoe size 7.5-8. They also seemed to get very compressed and did not remain as cushy as my synthetic socks. My feet did remain toasty when the temps dropped and did not get too hot during the heat of the day!

Overall, not a bad sock...just wasn't as great as I had hoped. I'm certain they will last a lifetime though...

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

I wear these socks every day, winter, summer, always. Even after many washings, the size doesn't change. I don't put them in the dryer, but I don't put my other socks in, either, and they shrink after many washings. These are cushy, soft. Worth the price. Don't go with cheap wool or poly pro. They wear out fast, cause blisters, and will never feel this soft.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:

If your reading this, your probably wondering if they are worth as much as they cost. They are afterall just socks. Short response, Yes they are. The large fit my feet perfectly like they were made just for me(im a size 12). They dont itch like cheaper wool socks as well, which is the main reason i shell out the extra for nicer wool socks.

IF you don't mind itchy socks, go for cheaper, otherwise it's these, or the even more expensive smartwool. These won't last longer than cheaper brands, socks are pretty much socks. These just do a better job when on your feet, and feel better than the cheaper brands.
