Comments about Dermatone SPF 36 Z-Cote Sunscreen - 1 oz.:

I've tried a lot of sunscreens with zinc oxide and this is the only one that actually keeps my face from getting burned. The reason why is that this product contains Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. The two combined make an effective sunscreen. I've discovered that Zinc Oxide doesn't work effectively on its own. This product stays on your skin without having to reapply frequently. The trick is to make sure your face is adequately covered and put it on at least 20 minutes before heading outside. The downside is that you will look like a ghost. But, who cares if you're heading out on the trail and just want good protection; on the other hand, if you are heading to a resort you may not like having a ghostly face. However, it does absorb after awhile. At this point, you may need to reapply it.

I'm not sure how environmentally friendly this product is. You may want to verify if it's reef safe before diving into the water. Also, the label says it's "moisturizing" but I find that it's very drying. I recommend applying it over moisturizer. This will also make it easier to smooth over your skin but might reduce its effectiveness.

I've tried all of the sport sunscreens marketed for faces, all of which claim they won't sting your eyes, and all of which DO - until now. Dermatone is the first out of about a dozen brands I've used on my face that provides bomber protection (zinc oxide, hello!) and does not sting my eyes. This is a keeper.
