Comments about Sportube Double Ski Case:

Not cheap, but worked well for air travel. I easily fit two pairs of AT skis into the box, one mounted with Dynafits the other with Fritschi's. I loaded them in "mixed" pairs, one Dyanfit ski tip to tail with a Fritschi mount. It's not clear that two pairs of Fritschi mounts would have fit.

Was also able to include some clothing to act as padding. The box collapses to a reasonable size that should fit into most trunks when not in use.

Comments about Sportube Double Ski Case:

The SporTube brand makes one of the best ski travel boxes on the market. That being said, their single is not fit for large skis in today's market. While wider and longer skis are now the norm, these boxes do not accommodate the changes in the industry. I have a Single that does not fit my powder skis, forcing me to use the double. This makes travel a lot more difficult and frustrating. The box is nice, protective, and airlines love them because it reduces their liability. In fact, I traveled throughout South America for a season with no issues and no extra paperwork or fees. If you are traveling internationally, consider these cases worth their weight in gold.

That being said, there are some major changes that need to be made. The injection molded plastic needs to have the seams sanded. The burs and seam on the handle literally cut your hands. I had scabbed knuckles for a month from all the pulling and tossing of this box in trucks, buses, planes, ect. If you are giving this to a driver or something, it won't affect you but if you are not so fortunate, get sand paper to fix this issue. The lock hole for travel locks should line up for both holes. Using the standard pin to secure the case and a travel lock for TSA to keep the skis safe should be a no brainer. Instead, I had to drill a third hole to accommodate security and stability all at once. Last bit of advice, rubber bands! Bring lots of them for your brakes. I had mine shattered by TSA in a regional flight to Sun Valley by our friends in TSA and they refused to replace the part. The rubber bands also help keep the skis together.

PS. Garbage bags and insulated coats and pants fit between for skis if you want to cut luggage costs or the hassle of bags.

Comments about Sportube Double Ski Case:

I owned the single case, but was looking far a case that would work well with the airlines and allow me to check 2 pairs of skis. This case easily holds 2 pairs of skis plus poles and protects them well against the abuse of air travel. I have also used it to pre-ship skis via UPS and FedEx.

Comments about Sportube Double Ski Case:

The SporTube system is a great way to tote skis a long distance and not have to worry about them getting banged up.

It's rigid plastic, so it's going to take all kinds of use and abuse from luggage handlers and so forth. It's wheeled, of course, so it's relatively easy to pull around (they could have used a higher-quality inline skate type of wheel, but the ones on there work pretty well in/around most travel situations).

About the only real downside to this case... well, there's two. First, if you're packing two pairs of skis and two pairs of poles, with the wider shapes of skis these days it can be a little bit tricky to get the hang of fitting them all into the case.

And second, with a soft-sided bag, you can cheat and pack in some ski stuff- gloves and clothing and the like- since you zip that type of bag all the way up. With the SporTube, since it's two big funky pieces that make it up (you have to see it in person to know what I mean), you can't really stuff it as full of items.

With the additional luggage fees on planes these days, that kind of sucks- it's nice to cheat and put some gear into the ski bag.

BUT... I still strongly suggest using this if you've got two pairs of skis to tote around and are going by air. My fiancee is a flight attendant for a big international carrier and we take at least a few trips a year, and we always use the SporTube.
