      I bought this hat while on holiday in San Diego - it served me well on my adventures there and round the Grand Canyon - it has now travelled back to the uk with me and is now my outdoors hat, perfect for dealing with the british weather. I do a lot of conservation work and its fantastic for keeping the sun & rain off - so much so that I've bought one for a friend and 2 more are on order as gifts

        I purchased my hat in 1994 when I was living in Vancouver, WA. I am bald and the rain was driving me crazy. I wore it every day that there was even a chance of rain, so I wore it a lot. In 2000 I moved to Utah and it became my snow hat and my "it's cold on the bald head" hat. So I've worn it a lot. It is still around, I wear it every day. The leather band has long since broken off and I haven't replaced it. It is my trademark hat now. Almost 14 years of wear and tear and it is still going strong. I highly recommend it.

          I wear this hat every opportunity I get. It has kept rain off my head and sun off my neck. The inside band indeed keeps itch to a minimum and the wool breathe relatively well, but doesn't vent like straw or vented hat. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this hat for consistent 90+ degree heat. A great hat for the price that I would highly recommend.

            I bought this for protection from the sun and rain, and it hasn't disappointed. Even on very hot days, it hasn't seemed too hot, and I have been spared burned eartips by it's wide brim. The other day, it fell down behind some gear in my car and got thoroughly crushed. I thought it was ruined - certainly looked like it. In a day or two, however, it regained its shape without any help from me.

              I loved this hat. I left it on the hatrack in Boston this weekend at a really great italian restaurant and someone stole it. Guess they liked it too. Now I have to figure out how to get my wife to approve buying another one. I don't wear it hiking--I wear a Tilly hat for that--but I really loved this hat. It's the only hat of this type I ever had that I didn't make me look like a complete imbecile. Also it was a great hat and I loved it. Maybe I'll just buy it again and take the consequences. If I wait for my wife to buy me another one it'll be Christmas or later.

                My all-time favorite work hat. As an outdoor worker I'm always wearing a hat, and this is by far my favorite. Rugged, durable, keeps my face out of the sun and does well with rain and snow. On hot days I soak it. Three years of solid use so far. It has had a rough life - and looks it: faded and looks a bit beaten up and misshapen, but it still does exactly what I want it to. Perfect.

                I am ordering my 4th Hat, current hat is 5 years old, faded to a pale green from dark brown, 12 months out of the year in High Desert AZ Cold Winters, Very hot Summers. Will blow off in high wind, suggest chin strap. At least 20 years of covering my head.

                  Wonderful hat. I have been wearing this style of hat since I got one at an REI in Bellingham, WA in 2004. Since then I've used it as a waterbowl for my dog, a waterbowl for my horse, as a towel, and as a damp piece of cloth to swat at a fire that got beyond the ring. And the hat still looks good to me.

                  The color fades slightly with years, which doesn't bother me. Also, hat tends to expand slightly when soaking wet -- after, e.g., using it as a waterbowl -- so that a stiff wind can blow it off your head. But these are minor complaints about a great piece of headgear.

                    When I bought this hat I thought it was a bit arrogant that they advertised it as "laughing at rain". After a 10 hour session of rain that left sleeves of my gortex jacket soaked but the top of my head dry I realized just how much I love this hat.
