Comments about Bear Bell:
As far as bear-bells go, it's probably one of the best that I've seen. The velcro is really good too, b/c it lets you attach pretty much anywhere, or silence the bell. However, we just got back from grizzly/black bear country, and given our walks in nature + turns around corners, etc. I would not rely on the loudness of these things. You are much better off yelling/singing. It's also been suggested to us that b/c the bell sond is non-organic sound, that curious bears might be drawn to it. --I also would not recommend attaching the bell to a dog collar. I attached it high up on my pack, just below my shoulder . . . and it was very loud. I would imagine that my dogs would find the noise quite harsh next to their ear.

Comments about Bear Bell:
This is a nice bear bell. The strap also silences the bell when not in use.

Comments about Bear Bell:
When I first saw this ... I though it was a joke.
The next time I went hiking, I saw a BEAR !
Scared the be-jesus out of me & my partner. As soon as I got off the trail - I bought one of these. Now, I take it with me on EVERY hike.
Attaches really easily to front of pack straps. Am glad for the silencer over the clanger. If not, I would drive myself nuts with the noise.
Better safe & alive than sorry & mauled.

Comments about Bear Bell:
i use this bell on one of my dogs and another type of bell on my other dog. it's sturdy and easy to put on and take off with the velcro. it makes a distinctive sound but i do think it could be louder. my other dog's bell is a brass Remington bell found in the hunting section and i can hear that bell about double the distance of this one. as for the bears, well i hope that aspect of it works as well. luckily, it hasn't been tested in that area, knock on wood. i use it everyday when we head off into the woods on our daily hikes and it's held up and not been damaged in anyway and has never fallen off. it's been submerged in water daily as well when she swims and so far there's been no ill effects. i would recommend this, but if you have beagles like me, or another dog that can't resist a scent (however far it may take them!) i would recommend a louder bell first. for most dogs who just like to stray off a little and sniff, this would be fine. i really like the peace of mind of being able to hear them from a distance and not worry if they are out of sight.
