Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

I love this shoe, but both pairs I owned only lasted about a month of semi regular outdoor use before problems started to occur.

The shoe is comfortable, and performs well, especially on slabs and cracks. It took me up and back down (with comfort) a 23 pitch route with a 5.12a crux pitch.

However in both pairs that I owned, the rand split at the toe, causing the sole to began to separate within a month. The sole also began to separate on the side of the foot. Due to the hole in the rand I could not even get these resoled with just a simple sole replacement. I think the problem is probably rooted in the fact that it is only a single layer of leather which can shrink or expand while the rubber cannot. I have had a pair of Miura (which has multiple layers) last over a year (with resoling).

However the shoe still functioned so I continued to use them. When the problem got worse I returned them to REI. The second time I got some resistance when doing this (because people do abuse the return policy). This was aggravating to me because even though it had been nearly a year since I bought them, these things failed me within a month. The sales person was even aware that this shoes wear out fast, he said many people call them the "monthos."

This is a good shoe, but it is not worth the price due to how fast it wears out. It honestly should come with a warning on it that it wears out so fast, so that less people are indeed unsatisfied when it does wear out. I would highly recommend the Miura (lace version) as a replacement, REI needs to start carrying this too.

Great shoes for long days out climbing, if you want something for power there are other shoes that will work better but these are great if you just want to be comfortable all day.

Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

Well I got this shoe because it's very popular. I guess in a description somewhere, I saw it say "good for cracks." I tried it out on a crack climb at the local gym. After a few times up, I noticed by the top laces, it feeds into leather loops. Those loops looked like they were about to break. So now I use a different pair of shoes to crack climb in the gym. First shoe that I had to do that for.

Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

I've ordered my real shoe size. The shoes were a little big so I had to downsize half a number, 1/2. Now, feels great. Shoe laces are a bit tricky when it gets to adjustments but overall these are great shoes to have. Totally recommended.

I gave these shoes as a gift to my boyfriend who has just started to climb with me. Shoes are very comfortable for a beginner climber and they can adjust easily to size of foot. I know of several more advanced climbers that have equally enjoyed them because you can tigthen them if you need to based on the laces.

Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

Note that THESE SHOES STRETCH A LOT. I bought the smallest pair that I could shove my feet into, and at first they were painful to wear; but after 4 or 5 climbing sessions, they fit my feet perfectly and felt great. I can leave my shoes on all day while my climbing partners all need to take off their shoes in between climbs because their feet hurt so much. I guess I'm lazy but I'd rather not have to bother with that. Meanwhile, the shoes are pretty good all-around performers; much better than the entry level shoes I started with (5.10 phoenixes).

Durability has been pretty good. I've been wearing them for a year, climbing twice a week, and the rubber is finally wearing through on the toe and one of the eyelets is starting to pull free from the leather. I'm tempted by some more aggressive shoes, but the hassle and pain doesn't seem worth it so I'm probably going to buy a second pair of Mythos.

Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

I use these shoes primarily indoors both bouldering and top rope climbing. They're great comfy shoes, and the bottoms are nice and sticky for good grip.

I got mine 2 sizes smaller than my normal shoe size (8.5 instead of the normal 10.5), and after breaking them in, they're the perfect size for climbing. I much prefer these to the pair of LaSportiva Nagos I had previously. These are more comfortable, AND they don't dye my feet red after climbing in them for a while.

              I'd recommend them!

Comments about La Sportiva Mythos Rock Shoes:

These are all-around great climbing shoes. I climb regularly, and depending on the season either indoors and/or outdoors. For any sport climbing, they offer great versatility. Outside of very aggressive climbs, these shoes will handle pretty much any sport climb. They are suprisingly good for bouldering, as well. They have great grip, and they form very well to the shape of your feet (assuming you buy the proper size), which allows you to get tight grips and fit into snug holds.

I would recommend buying a shoe about an entire size (US) smaller than normal (it is leather, afterall). Mine have stretched about 3/4 of a size, and it didn't take terribly long to break in (it was worth a couple climbs of pain to get them broken in properly). I have a relatively narrow foot, and they fit very snug on the sides.

My only issue with this shoe is the lace system. I love having laces because I feel like I have more control with getting a snug fit on my narrow feet than I would have with velcro or slip on. However, the lace system runs along the shoe and uses the tension of the laces to actually be the lace loop that holds the lace in place. It's not a problem if you are willing to take the time to tighten the entire shoe evertyime. If you don't, however, sometimes the lace loop will start coming a bit loose, which makes the ability to control the fit of the shoe not as effective (and it's not good for the lace over time). However, it is not nearly a big enough problem to outweigh the high quality of these shoes.

I would highly recommend them if you are an intermediate climber like myself. I have a friend who is much more advanced than me, and he has a pair as well for a lot of basic top rope sport climbs. This would also probably be a good all-around shoe for a beginner, assuming you are willing to spend this much on a shoe.
