      This *is* a loud whistle. I tried testing it in the parking lot of my local REI and didn't think it was that loud, but when I got home and blew on the thing as hard as I could, it was most certainly *loud*.

      You can't blow on this whistle lightly, you have to give it some wind...a little huff and a puff until the whistle sounds ear-piercingly loud. It's so loud I make myself nearly deaf every time I blow on it!

      I'm getting one for my wife and two children as well. Whistles are a great way to make sure no one gets lost and helps to scare away animals who may be after your food.

        I purchased this Whistle to use on the search and rescue mission that I am dispatched to within SAR (Search and Rescue). As a searcher I wish everyone would carry some type of signaling device, the whistle be one not to forget. This little whistle outperforms some of the big guys by far. The pitch is a little high but over all good little whistle.
