Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
I have the Sawyer Extractor, I have kept it in my hiking pack with my first aid kit for months and fortunately never had it use it.. However luck ran out the other night and when I tried to use it the pump housing cracked as I inserted the cup attachment, it would not hold suction at all. I was intending to use it to remove tick goo from my girlfriend after she was bitten. This area is well known for having ticks with Lyme disease.
The sorriest part came 50 yards later when we encountered a rattle snake and I was almost struck. I couldn't tell you without screaming profanities how angry I was that it was broken at that point... in the middle of nowhere, at night without cell coverage in an area to rugged to drive a Jeep in or even land a helicopter.
They need to make this from stronger material, you can not count on cheap plastic to help you in an emergency.

Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
I was stung by a bee while in the back country on an [...] Adventure trip. Within seconds my guide was applying the Extractor to the bite and it effectively removed most of the venom. It was quick, easy, painless and did not require any invasive or unsanitary measures. I was back to enjoying my hike in minutes. I highly recommend this type of device for any bee stings whether in the woods or at home. It is an excellent first aid tool!

Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
Great product. I actually used it on a snake bite on my dog, and could see the venom coming out of the bite. Works well for fire ant bites, and will bring some splinters up where you can grab them. Mine stays my pack and goes everywhere with me.

Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
We bought this kit after a "very near miss" (with in 2") with a rattlesnake bite. Since that encounter, we've used this kit on two separate occasions to treat a yellow jacket/wasp sting. The swelling and pain were minimal when using the kit immediately after being stung vs times we've had untreated stings. For those allergic, this is a MUST!

Simple to use - even the kids can understand the instructions - does not weigh much - a useful addition to the first aid kit !

Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
I've had this for years but only just had cause to use it. The day after gardening in long grass my ankle grabbed my attention with a ferocious burning itching pain. There was a hard lump, unlike any sting or bite I'd had before, and I was afraid I might have been bitten by a spider. I used the extractor and there were two beads of fluid, exiting through the bite puncture I presume, and then a small explosion. The itching pain disappeared immediately and the wound is healing quickly. I don't know for sure that it was a spider but it seems logical that spiders have shallow bites, their venom is intended to destroy tissue at the site, and puncture wounds are likely to be cleansed by fluid flowing out of them, so nothing to lose by trying suction.
The pump was very easy to use. I was able to find the right size cup and it had a lot of suction. Unfortunately I washed the hollow pump part out before reading the instructions that said not to get the inside wet. Now it doesn't seal as well and I'm buying another. At least it is very reasonably priced.

Comments about Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit:
I have had one of these for many, many years, and have used it for everything from spider and bee stings to splinters, sea urchin spines, and even an inflamed tooth infection. It works great, and can alleviate a lot of discomfort and in some cases could save your life. I would not go camping, scuba diving or hiking without it.
