What did we ever do without these?

I don't know how we survived in the old days before the Swiss Army penknife was developed. For opening packages, turning computer case screws, having a toothpick and scissors for broken nails and hanging threads handy on one's keychain. Our family has even worn out a few over the decades. One does tend to forget it's on the keychain, which leads to the (ahem) need to buy a new one after a flight, but the price is tiny for such a useful tool (and provides opportunities for gift-giving!). Suggestion: I keep mine on a removable keychain section with the house key, so I can just leave it home easily when I fly, or when I'm visiting in prison. The standard red was not available for this gift purchase; I hope the recipient likes the green! Exotic!

pretty good for what it is

This is a very small multi-tool. It is difficult to stress enough how small it is, and thus how limited its use. The knife seems quite delicate, though it is sufficiently sharp and strong to open letters, cut tape on packages, etc. The scissors operates smoothly; again, though the tiny blades limits how much you can use this for without getting impatient. Cutting tread and thin string is fine, as is even cutting into stubborn plastic product packaging. The file doesn't do much filing. The tweezers operate fine, as does the screwdriver. I was disappointed that the toothpick fell out and was lost within a week of my carrying the tool on my keychain. I'd only taken the pick off to use a couple of times, and I secured it in its proper place immediately afterward. I'm not sure how it fell out. All that said, I would still recommend this product for someone who wanted an extremely small multi-tool that can be carried everywhere. I really like being able to carry it into places in which a more obvious knife would be noticed and frowned upon. It's useful to have on my keychain for day to day activities. I would not, however, take it on a hike or rely on it during a camping trip.

Best Swiss Army knife ever

Which is more useful - a bulky fancier Swiss Army knife with all the bell and whistles that sits in a drawer, or one the size of a car fob that you use virtually every day? Dollar for dollar this is the best Swiss Army knife ever. I’ve lost one or two by forgetting I have one in my pocket and losing TSA, but I just go down to REI and replace with a single $20 bill. This makes for a better knife gift than any more impressive feature-packed model. Get this knife - it’s essential!

Good Things DO Come in Small Packages!

I took this little knife on a month long road trip out west. I used every part of it! The scissors trimmed moleskin perfectly and my fingernails as well. The tweezers came in handy when I brushed on a cactus. The toothpick was handy when I ran out of dental floss, and I can't even remember all the things I used the knife for. The screwdriver end was my savior when one of the screws in my glasses kept getting loose and the lens kept falling out! Unfortunately it is so small and lightweight I forgot it was in my backpack and airport security took it!!!

replacing an old friend

My trusty small Swiss Army knife has opened boxes, tweezed splinters, cut tape and done a myriad of other useful things for me and my friends (and sometimes strangers) but had gradually lost some of its components. After all, I had been carrying it on my key ring for many years and gotten used to folks being surprised to find a grandmotherly type helping them open/fix/remove splinter etc. I was sad to retire it, but pleased to see the cost was about the same as years ago, and in my store, they would even take the remaining pull out parts to replenish others' old friends. Love my REI!!

Great item — color is not accurate

I bought this to replace my pink one that broke after many years of use. I’d been looking for the lighter pink color (shown at bottom in photo), and the online photo appeared a match. Alas, the item is actually the darker pink (seen at top in photo). Apparently this is the new color, so I’ll have to live with it. Just be aware if buying specifically for this color.

Remove your Swiss Army Knife from your purse...

I have probably owned 10 Swiss Army Knifes in my life. However, every time I travel by air, I forget to remove it from my purse. It is always discovered and removed and I end up having my husband buy me a new one from REI. I'm sure I'm not the only person this has happened to. I always wonder who ends up with my confiscated Swiss Army Knife?

A must have

I love these things. Unfortunately this is my third one because I keep forgetting to take them off when I’m at the airport so then I have to get rid of them. But not this one. I got a yellow one so I won’t forget it’s on my key ring.

Best Little Knife Ever

I use to carry a larger knife but for the last 15+ yrs. this has been my go-to knife for almost all my needsfrom picking my teeth, removing splinters, and cutting rope. And that includes more than 70 months of combat duty in Iraq and surrounding areas. I actually travel with several spares in case I lose the one in my pocket. When the need might arise I have other knives for special needs. But for every day, this small, ready to go knife cannot be beat.

Love these SANs

This one replaced an older one that broke. I missed having the little scissors. Especially useful for emergency bang trims and opening food containers. I'm classy like that.
