I've tried the others, and they all come up short. These are simply the greatest water bottle on the planet. My family has used these for over a decade now, and we adore them. Nothing else comes close. Buy a splashguard, and a good backpacking filter, and you're set.

I use mine everyday in an industrial setting. I fill it, I drain it. No taste issues if you don't leave water sitting in it. The only cons for this bottle, it shows dirt, and if you forget it in the freezer full it will bulge the bottom leaving you with the toughest Weeble bottle ever. Buy the Guyot Splashguard cap. it makes it much more civilized.

Classic Nalgene water bottles. I just bought two new bottles for a 4-day hike. With some 1/2" Webbing and duct tape I added some "handles" to the side to lash to my pack. As always, great product.

This bottle has lasted me over 4 years and is still strong! I have dropped it many times and it still has zero leaks. Nalgene has made there wide mouth bottles a outdoor standard by being very compatible to many water filters.

Great product. I have this and 2 lexan ones. I use the lexan ones for flavored things because this model now smells like grape powerade. I have to look up a few more ways to clean it. For plain water it works great and I use it when I plan on getting dirty because its not pretty like the lexan ones. (I use those for everyday use)
I would suggest an insulator, because it does sweat a lot and in my opinion isnt great at staying cool.(it is only plastic though!) I use the neoprene one for now and am working on gettin the OR bottle parka.
Cant go wrong with one of these Nalgene's!

I bought two of these bottles three days ago, and when I got home I filled them with a very weak, dilute solution of water and Simple Green. The intent, of course, was to be certain that the bottles' interior was clear of any residue or anything else that may have lingered from manufacturing.

I shook them vigorously, and then over the next couple of days I poured out the contents during the course of washing dishes and a cast iron skillet.

As the two bottles emptied, I rinsed them several times, and then filled them with filtered water and put them in the trunk of the car.

I used one bottle this morning at the gym, and it tasted strongly of Simple Green and smelled strongly. I threw out most of the water, brought the bottle home and washed it again with very hot water, and put it on the sink with the cap open. The bottle literally STINKS of Simple Green, and I'm very discouraged with this purchase.

I have a half dozen lexan bottles that I've used for years, washing them with Simple Green and a bottle brush. The lexan bottles are truly indestructable, but some of the plastic caps have begun leaking, and this is a problem when they fall over in the trunk and an ounce or two leaks out before I catch it.

The lexan bottles retain absolutely no hint of Simple Green, but the writeups on these Nalgene bottles were so glowing that I thought it might be time to start buying replacements. I really regret buying these, and if the bottle now open & empty on the sink doesn't lose the smell by tomorrow, then these are going back to REI.

At the moment, I cannot at all recommend them, but if the condition clears up, I'll amend this writeup.

If I told you how long I've been using these, you would start calling me Methusula!

To begin with, the properties of polyproylene compounds is such, that with rare exception, this bottle is indestructible.

I've never had one let me down yet. I dropped one in Angeles Crest Forest - into a portero, known as Strawberry Portero. I was above the portrero at a peak known as strawberry peak.

The hike was a Winter trek, and I didn't get it back until the Summer. Since that Winter, the snow was deep down below in the protero, and especially so at the foot of the face of the precipice.

When I went looking for the nalgene bottle, there it lay, water and all. I emptied the water, washed the bottle, refilled it with filtered water and away I went.

Progress demands that little with respect to adventuring remain static. New technology brings advances to the outdoors which are amazing.

But one aspect may you be absolutely sure of: Where bottles are concerned, nothing remains more steadfast and constant than the quality and reliability of a Nalgene bottle.

Get one, it'll be your friend for life, and for good adventuring. Enjoy!!

This is a great bottle! I find the HDPE version of the Nalgene bottle to be much more durable than the lexan version, most of mine have been to hell and back again. This bottle is not as pretty as the lexan version of the Nalgene but provdes the best combonaton of quality, price, durability, and convenience!
