Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
As I write this, I am wearing a pair of the very same socks I purchased in the Berkley, CA store back in 1977 when I first became an REI member. I have worn them outside, walking on sidewalks, I wear them with my sports sandals, boots, ski boots etc and they show very little wear after over 30 years!! They are warm when it's cold, cool when it's warm and periodically I have to fight my daughters when they try to make off with them. You can't go wrong with these!

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
These socks were so scratchy that I had to take them off 3 minutes after putting them on. To make things worse, my feet are still irritated by them 20 minutes later. You might like these if you have tough feet but my sensitive skin can't handle it.

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
Product update - I bought these socks over a month and a half ago - I wear them about 5 times/week - hiking + work + to sleep. I smell them every time I take them off and they don't stink. Unbelievable... REI has really made a great product.

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
I'm allergic to wool, so I always wear a thin cotton or other liner sock with these (or with any other wool sock, for that matter).
Yet I couldn't get through a winter without them. I'm a women's size 6, so if I get the small size, I have to either wash them cold (well, they are wool) or pull them hard after washing (and before line drying) to stretch them back out. On the other hand, when I intentionally shrink the larger size, I get a VERY warm sock that fits pretty well. I encourage you to try more than one size if you're between sizes.
I have found that the best way to make them last is to wear and wash them "sensibly" at first (wear for a day, wash in cool water). After a couple of times using them that way, the fibers sort of "set." Then I can wear a pair as outer socks for 3 days in a row (maybe more), washing only the inner socks daily. For traveling, a single "aged" pair is insurance against several unexpectedly cold days.
They work fine with shoes and boots, but mostly I love them because they allow me to wear sandals or clogs through most of the winter, except when I have to walk through snow.
If you don't know what ragg wool is (it's not super-soft smooth thin stuff) or if you live someplace warm, you may not want these. If you're looking for Ragg wool socks, and you want toasty toes in a cool climate, these are what you're looking for.

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
The only socks I will wear, working in a greenhouse they take a lot of abuse. They hold up in boots and keep my feet dry well over a 100 degrees and they hold up to the moisture levels that I experience. I won't wear any other sock.

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
Felt comfortable enough, and seem like they would hold up well in cooler temps, but here in Texas they did not wick away moisture as efficiently as many of the other socks i.e. Wigwam Cool-Lite Hiker Pro Socks.

Excellent product. I've used these with silk liners and they're incredible: I hope to get a few more pair!

Comments about REI Classic Ragg Socks:
I've worn ragg wool socks daily and exclusively for more thirty years and my feet thank me for them. They are comfy, durable, very breathable, don't smell and are both warm in winter and cool in summer. These are great socks. If you like wool you simply can't go wrong. A terrific price, too.
