Speed Play - Redesign is not better.

Recently I had to repurchase my speed play's from Wahoo who bought them out. My understanding is they would not be redesigned. Ha! So after buying new pedals and cleats they are a tuning nightmare. The "Play" in the cleat now has an adjustment (two part internal screw to presumably tighten or loosen). My cleats are so tight if I flare at all I pop off the cleat. Further you have to remove the cleat from the shoe to adjust it, another pain, or it's not clear in the barely readable instructions how to do that. Most bike shops roll their eyes when I ask about it. Annoyed at the tight settings, rubbing and random pop-off.

Highly recommend pairing with Easy Tension Cleats

As a long time Speedplay X user, when it recently came time to replace my pedals, I opted for the new Wahoo Speedplay Zeroes, paired with Wahoo’s Easy Tension Cleats (note: Wahoo pedals come with a set of cleats, which I have not installed). I decided to order the Easy Tension Cleats after reading comments from other users who prefer gentle tension for rapid unmounting; fortunately, this was a good decision. Based on “road feel,” I had no trouble getting in and out of my new pedals and easy tension cleats, but believe I would have struggled, if more effort were involved due to higher tension. For now, I’d advise those used to Speedplay’s original X pedals to consider buying the Easy Tension Cleats, since Wahoo’s update to the Zeroes is not backward compatible with the old cleats for X pedals. You can always install the regular Wahoo cleats that come with new Wahoo pedals on a second pair of cycling shoes, if later you want to compare them with Easy Tension Cleats.

This would be my third

This would be my third set of speedplay pedals, first of wahoo branding. Getting clipped into the right is especially difficult. Support had a list of 7 pieces of information they wanted, something like 4 pictures and my weight. Andy Pruitt's book mentioned that too much float can be a source of knee problems and these certainly have less float. There are some adjustments so I will keep working on them. Covers make it easier to walk. The X series from previously took a set of cleat covers which I would often forget to remove after our end of ride coffee stop. Felt a bit like a ballerina walking in them though.

Same old Speedplay's, but new and improved!

I have been riding Speedplay X series pedals for almost 30 years. Wahoo dropped the X series from the product line, but the Zeroes are similar. Cleat installation, pedal action, and clicking into the pedal on the bike are the same. Wahoo continues the Speedplay without skipping a beat. Nice.

Recommend the new Wahoo Speedplay Pedals!

Love the new design of the Speedplay pedals and the elimination of the grease port to support a sealed bearing. I also the look of the new shoe cleat walkable covers, a much more eye pleasing cover and the black only option is simple and looks solid. I found after a quick break in period, the usually stiff entry engagement of the past line of Speedplay pedals, was surprisingly easier to engaged with the updated version. I am truly happy with making the investment in the latest generation of Speedplay pedals, and have consistently recommended to my cycling friends who don’t have Speedplay, or who have the older versions to purchase this latest generation. I know from my experience, they will not be disappointed.

Great for knee issues!

I'm a runner who now does a lot of cross-training on a road bike. Current pedals were causing my patellar tendonitis to inflame after each ride (despite everything else being properly adjusted). Bought the Speedplay Zero pedals on a recommendation from a cyclist friend specifically because of the ability to dial in up to 15 degrees of float - that could be helpful for my ongoing knee issues. And they work PERFECTLY - no inflammation/aggravation of the tendonitis after the first use. Plus I love the firmness of the clip and how they feel with my shoes. Highly recommend!

A great pedal with a more durable design

I have used these pedals for years. I bought the new pedals for my new road bike. I like the new design. The metal encompasses the entire cleat connection area, which will give the pedals a longer more durable life. You will not be disappointed

Best pedals I’ve used

Took a little to get used to, was a breeze to adjust, it is now by far my favorite set of pedals I have ever ridden, I have knee and ankle issues and these pedals are magical, I do suggest applying a little more lubricant to the cleat position to aid in the in/out when breaking in the pedals/ cleats. Still getting accustomed to getting out of the saddle and clipping in. I’ve only put about 350 miles in so far, but I am very happy with this purchase. I wanted to buy a set forever but just never got around to it, now I only wish I had gotten them sooner.

Speedplay Zero's

The Wahoo Speedplay Zero's are a great replacement for my X5's that I have been using for the past 17 years. Lighter, and no maintenance is a great thing. I ordered them with the standard tension on the cleats, but am finding those too hard to engage when riding. They are very stiff when clipping in. Over time, I have gotten use to them but still have to look down to make sure I am getting clipped in. I may order the easier tension one's or put my old set on them as those were much easier to clip in with. Overall, pedals are great, cleats are ok.

I have ridden speed play

I have ridden speed play for years. I’d give these 5 stars because they are good speed play pedals and I love the clear covers but I’m taking away 2 because I couldn’t clip in. Yes I know light action cleats are available, but I don’t think they should ship these with the “regular” ones that 170lb men find it difficult or impossible to get into. Considering I’m under 130, impossible. So if I didn’t already know I could stretch out the clip, I’d have to buy a separate set of cleats to use them. J really think the cleats should come separately.
