My Wife Hates It

I bought this for my wife as a replacement for her venerable 920xt, which is still kicking. The watch has a lot of great features, is highly customizable, tracks every activity you can think of, and was easy to set up and sync with my wife's Connect app. The issue? Battery life. It barely lasts a day when training for a triathlon, and I have little faith in its ability to stay charged for the duration of actual races. There are many features you can turn off in order to extend battery life, but finding them all is a challenge, and finding useful documentation and recommendations on Garmin's site is difficult. Even following their battery saver advice, battery life while you are active is terrible. And then of course you have to go back in and turn the features back on when you're done. For $500, you should not have to worry about your watch shutting off during your race or training day. Why not create a minimal battery use mode instead of having to identify the 14 settings you have to go into, disable, do your race, and then re-enable when done? Or why not allow you to create different activity profiles to activate? Again, for $500, there's no excuse. For what it's worth, I use the Garmin Instinct on multi-day backpacking trips with zero battery life issues, even when synced to my inReach and tracking.

Great functions but needs frequent charging

I have a small wrist but the fit is very good, not too big but just right. GPS connection is very fast. Everything works flawlessly. I tried 245 before but definitely 745 is much better. 245 was flimsy (bezel broke off after a month use). GPS connection on 245 was slower compared to 745. 745 feels sturdy. I was happy with 745 until I had to repeatedly charge every 4 days. It should have been every 6 days. I liked the watch so tried to manage it, but I run into a situation charge level was too low I had to wait for the watch to be charged enough to go for a run. Sadly I returned 745. I plan to try 945 LTE or 955. If you can manage the charge issue 745 is a great watch.

Overall a great watch !!!

I have been using Garmin for my running/swim & biking for many years and haven’t used any other. When my last watch the Forerunner 735 was getting old and as I was about to change to Coros, just called the Garmin customer service to see if they had any suggestions. I was told about the 745 and I sure did get one last month to see how it was any different. I really lived to its expectations with some fine features: extending the battery life, accuracy in heart rate, music storage, Garmin pay and so many other excellent options!!! I highly recommend this watch. Love it!

Second review... loving it more and more!

This is a follow-up review because Im so thrilled with this watch. I finished their 5k training olan to build speed and now in the 1/2 mara plan... these kept me motivated during our Michigan 15F days this last month. / Im keeping a close eye on body battery and stress level to increase my recovery. This has great data and im getting healthier. / If you can handle the $200 increase from the next lower options I think it is worth it. / A complaint from some people is battery life... Im getting used to it and doing a quick recharge before a long activity.

I love my Garmin Forerunner 745

I have had this watch for almost 2 years now, I love it. Before I had this one I had another Forerunner which I also loved. I love the features, the tracking different stats for different activities. Its waterproof, it's built tough to deal with my lifestyle. The strap is comfortable and I've never had any issues with it and skin irritation like I have had in the past with other brands' straps. My only advice is really decided what you want out of a watch, this one is more expensive. Also take note of the size of it on your wrist. I liked the mapping features on the watch one size up from this one, but on my wrist I knew it was something I wouldn't wear.

Great sport watch overall with no Chinese support

I have got Garmin Forerunner 745 for less than a month now and I have loved it so much because of it's good quality, high accuracy and resistance. All these functions to keep tracking of your body, monitoring feature are best of the best. The only thing I have to complain about is about Chinese language support for notification message. I am living in US but I have connections with people in my hometown and receive message in Chinese on daily basis. I did lots of research and found that the watch sold in US doesn't support Chinese language by design while having Chinese version of Garmin Connect in mobile. Would you please consider the requirements of customers like me

Love it -- a lifestyle changer

I upgraded from a 10 yr old polar hrm that I loved but out of production watchband broke. I originally went to the Garmin instinct solar (loved the solar but the screen was too small for me to read and I realized I really wanted the music). My 745 has been outstanding. After 6 weeks Im still learning new features (it automatically connected to my cyclops magnus e-trainer to download and record a zwift workout). / I say lifestyle changer since im nkw committed to the training plans. I realized my regular workout was over training but also I did not have an optimal amount of high pace anaerobic zone work. / Also the hr sleep monitoring and body battery assessment has helped me change my wind down and evening plans to get much, much, much more restful sleep (so I can lower my recovery time and workout again). / Re the battery, if im going on a long workout I just make sure its charged up before i go out. It has performed within the stated battery specification. / It is worth upgrading to this watch.

Great watch for runners

Right out of the box I already liked this watch. It's slick and not too bulky. It only took a couple of days of clicking through all the menu options for me to get a grasp of how it functions and what its capabilities are. And now that I've been using it throughout a month full of runs, I'm even more ecstatic that I had decided to buy it. I'm an active runner and I'm a huge fan of the data that it has given me after each run. It's wicked accurate at tracking my distances and gives me insights post-run based on my heart rate and cadence. I would recommend the Forerunner 745 to any runner.

Disappointing

I bought this watch because of the range of features but most prominently the ability to get heart rate while exercising without the need to wear a chest strap monitor. This has been the main disappointment. When wearing the watch alone the heart rate can be out by as much as 30-40 bpm on a run compared to similar efforts in the same conditions. Ive used the watch and (Garmin) chest strap at the same time with the strap paired with a separate garmin device and the difference can be seen. When the 745 is paired with the chest strap the HR is what i would expect it to be. I know Garmin say it can have inaccuracies at high speed/intensities but i am in neither of those brackets. I have also found some of the other activity tracking functions to be hit and miss - floors climbed is not accurate and pulse ox and stress tracking just seem completely random. I would have returned the watch but didnt realise there was a 90 day return policy on these devices. Definitely not a $500 experience.

complicated little machine

Perhaps a bit overly complicated (feel like I've only scratched the surface of the many functions), and a few small frustrations, such as being prompted to set up Garmin Pay, going through the process only to find that the bank won't recognize it anyway, but still enjoying the 745 very much. Solid product.
