When I got this I thought it to be just a novelty I would bring on car camping trips and sit inside my tent on hot days and use it to move a little air through. It did that and it was fine doing that. Then I found out with a little distance so it wouldn't be damaged or in range of the heat (I don't recommend bringing any electronic device near heat or fire, personal experience) it worked as a small makeshift bellows on the campfire. Great another purpose for it. Not the most brilliant use, but it helped since the wood was damp and a hotter fire meant an easier time burning damp wood. Then I found out I could use this at home on cold mornings with the space heater in one side of the room and this little thing-a-ma-bob in another and hot air from the ceiling would become more dispersed, go fluid dynamics. Great, chalk up another one for the portable fan with a rechargeable battery. Then I found I could actually use my bigger Anker battery that I carry to recharge my laptop to recharge the fan's battery. Great, more battery power for a longer battery life. Bathroom smells a little strong? Portable fan moves air. Cooking fish? Portable fan moves air. Ex comes over and smokes inside? Portable fan moves air (water gun puts out ex's cigarette). The tripod stand is pretty cool as you can fold back one or two legs and prop it on an open window sill with bug mesh and use it to pull in fresh air from outside or move stale air outside. It fits in a decently sized Jeep cup holder when the vehicle is off and you just want a fan. You can set it up on a table or chair or hang it from a curtain rod or your lamp or closet or car door handles or tent loop or string up some clothes line on your porch and hang it in front of your hammock. The battery life works as advertised, 4 hrs on high and a deceptively long enough period on low. The light on the battery is a nice touch, too, you never know when you'd need another emergency flashlight/beacon. Remove the battery and it's a little makeshift kids nightlight. Not the most powerful of motors and certainly not the strongest fan speeds, but it does what it's supposed to do...move air. And with a little ingenuity and imagination, it's like a rubber band with a thousand uses. Who knew? Now the reason why it lost points. The motor started dying. It didn't die completely, the device still works, but I noticed after 15-30 mins the fan...started spinning slower, and stopping, and starting up again slow and staying slow or just stopping. Battery was fine, I made sure it's fully charged, but I noticed the fan speed knob was really warm to the touch and the fan just wasn't functioning. I was only 4 months into use with it and I'm actually disappointed in my little novelty fan. I was growing quite attached to the little thing. It was doing quite impressive feats short of jumping through hoops that were originally on fire that it put out itself. Durability, that's the only reason it lost points. The casing is fine and the was no damage to the blades or battery. I don't know whether it was because it just wouldn't stand up to the use I was putting it through, but I'm actually quite sad it doesn't last. I wanted to exchange it for another at REI, but when I brought it back, the store didn't carry any more and the representative said it would be a lot faster for me to just order another one online and return this one instead of them placing the order themselves because "their system is slow." Kind of disappointed in the lack of effort there. I brought a printable return slip and original packaging just in case though, knowing full well that I might get this response back. I don't know if I'll be purchasing it again though because of the lack of effort alone. I dunno, maybe if it goes on sale just because of the price point. I wanted to recommend it to my military friends who were deployed to some hot and muggy areas, but I don't know if it could withstand that kind of abuse. Get something else, would last longer I suppose. Byyyyeee tiny fan, I'll miss you... :(

Sorry to report

I am sorry to report that my nifty Coleman camping fan, which was weak when new, is now useless after only a few weeks. Operation is erratic even on a fully charged battery. I need a fan that I can depend on to move air all of the time when I need it. Not a fan that mostly runs at speeds too slow to make any difference, or stops for rest breaks every few minutes. I am disappointed. Otherwise, I liked the overall design, especially the removable battery and the hanging hook, which could benefit from a swivel. Maybe I got a lemon. Or maybe there is some flaw in the electronics. I don’t know but I did find a replacement fan that works great, so far.

If you want to be Kool get a Coleman 1 Source Fan!

I am very pleased with the Coleman One Source rechargeable battery portable camping tent fan. I had my doubts about the fact that the manufacturer had a performance report on the product box that states that with a fully charged battery the fan would operate for a continuous 15 hours in the low speed setting. I fully charged the battery and I was very pleased to see that the fan had operated for 14.5 continuous hours!! I also tested the manufactures performance claim that the fan would operate continuously with a fully charged battery for up to 6 hours on the high speed setting. The fan ran continuously for 5.5 hours!! I am very impressed with the quality and the performance of this product!

So Cool!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The One Source Coleman Fan is perfect for our deck, bedrooms and camping trips too! The battery lasts for hours and charging is simple with a standard USB cord. I love the fact that it can be charged even while the fan is in use. The battery also can be used to charge other technology using the USB plug. The fan has two settings...low and high and is super quiet. It sits on a tripod or can hang conveniently from the attached hook. A bonus is that the legs fold up making it easy to store and take away on a trip. I even pop it in our suitcase when we travel. We set the fan neatly on the counter or table and it's powerful enough to cool the whole room. Although the fan does not oscillate it does tilt up and down. A great little fan with incredible power!

Decent fan, inexcusable charging situation

The fan seems decently built and moves air, and has adequate positioning and hanging configurations. But I deducted several stars due to the fact that although the charging cable is allegedly "USB-C", the only cable that works to charge the battery is the one that ships with the device. I haven't found any other USB-C cable that works. This defeats the purpose of using a standard connector like USB. They may as well have designed their own proprietary charging port. A wasted opportunity.

Good quality fan

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Everybody knows that Coleman is known for making good quality and standard bearer products. I got an opportunity to try their rechargeable portable fan. It has good battery life, this is the main pro of this fan. It is good for outdoor campings. It is made of very good quality material. It has three speed settings..... off , slow and high. But even if it is at high speed it doesn’t give enough air. Battery lasts long but speed is little slow. It was not as expected. I was expecting the traditional Coleman quality. It three folded legs remains constant and doesn’t move or collapsed. But overall it is good.

The Perfect Travel Fan

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am looking forward to camping this year in the early fall when the weather is turning crisp and cool. When I do go camping, I am taking a bunch of Coleman OneSource gear with me, such as this awesome fan. Basically, the OneSource line of products power all of your outdoor gear and devices with one interchangeable rechargeable battery system, so everything works all the time and you don't have to worry about anything. OK. Back to this great fan. It has multiple speeds for whatever makes you comfortable, an oscillating head for great airflow, a tripod design which lets you pack it away in your backpack for easy transport, features a hook on the bottom to let you hang it up, has IPX4 water resistance to let you never fear for your fan even if you end up accidentally falling into the river. This thing is also powerful and will blow you away when you first turn it on! The 4800 mAh rechargeable battery will get you 6 hours of runtime on high setting and 12 hours on low setting. The only downside to this thing is the fact that you need to buy the separate charging station to get the juice back into the batteries and you can't use a regular wall charger. But if you don't mind buying the charging station, you will love this little fan.

Good features but not very useful

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The fan doesn’t seem that powerful to me and after trying to use it outside it didn’t really do much to keep me cool. It also came cracked at the hinge where the fan head can move. I don’t believe this affected the function but it doesn’t seem well built and the plastic is bound to give and break at some point. I also feel this should have come with a carrying case as it is pretty fragile and I don’t know how well it would do packed up for a camping trip. I do like the power source and find it convenient if you buy the other products you can use it with. It also has the nice function of powering your phone which is a huge plus. But overall, I found this fan to be just okay.

Any USB A to USB C cable works for charging.

Another review said USB C cables don't charge it. It's true USB C to USB C cables do not charge this fan's battery, but any USB A to USB C cable similar to the one that it came with works. The fan is also not very strong, considering how expensive it is.

Failed me when I needed it the most

The first night of using it on a hot camping night was fine. Completely charged it the next day. On the second night I woke up to find that the fan was no longer turning even though there was still half the battery left. REI should remove this product ASAP since it doesn't even come close to REI's reputation.
