Fine But Expensive - IF You Get the Correct One
This is a fine footprint with a nice system that clips to the fly if you want to go extra light and use just the fly and foot print IF you get the correct footprint for your tent. The clip system was changed on the 2020 Copper Spur HV UL2 tent so if you have a 2019 or earlier tent, this clip system will not work - assuming that this is the 2020 footprint. There is no indication in the product description what year this is for so you kind of roll the dice here. I ordered this for my 2019 tent and I am out of luck as there are no remaining 2019 footprints. Again, its a nice foot print for this tent system if the clip system works with your tent. But at $70, it is a very expensive footprint system.
It fits!
I got it to fit after reading one of the helpful reviews on this. Attach poles to footprint first and the cord of tent body after
Footprint Works (But it's a really awkward design)
It works but not the way you would intuitively think. 1) lay out the footprint 2) attach the poles to respective corner grommets (Orange <> Orange : Gray <-> Gray) Once this "frame" is up, you can now attach the tent body. Sitting "under" the frame and on top of the footprint, layout the tent. Orient each corner correctly and simply slip on the grommet onto the pole. This will seem weird because the footprint is already on. Just slip the tent onto the pole ends. Do not detach the footprint. By doing it 'my' way the tent actually locks the footprint onto the poles and keeps it from falling off. If you put the tent onto the pole first and then the footprint - the footprint will simply slip off. The layering on the poles is weird as it goes tent, footprint. But it works
needs adjustable attachment points
I feel like this was meant to have adjustable attachment points. The stock length of the straps are simply too long to keep the footprint taught and actually attached to the tent. Otherwise, it just falls off unless you sandwich the footprint grommets between the tent grommet and pole. Even then it is sloppy and grossly oversized. It's as if engineering approved the design, sent it to production, and someone forgot to install a ladder lock buckle to make the length of the straps adjustable. Absolutely mind blowing that BA has the guts to sell this, I hope they enjoy their 95% margins on this overpriced piece of plastic.
Helps keep tent dry during tent set up in rain
A couple of reviews stated the footprint did not match their tent. My 2020 footprint for the new 2020 version of the Copper Spur hv 2 ul fit just fine. The 2020 footprint will not fit the old tent model and vice versa, so make sure you receive the correct footprint for the right tent. The 2020 footprint is color coded just as the tent is, so it is easy to tell where the color coded tent poles and color coded tent/rainfly clips go. I had a homemade Tyvek footprint, but bought this footprint because it makes it much easier to set up the tent rainfly in the rain. Once the rainfly is set up, you can crawl inside of it and put up the tent while protected from the rain, keeping your tent interior dry once tent set up is complete.
Not complicated
I've read a lot of reviews where people had issues with this footprint. As long as you understand the intent of the design it works just fine. The intended use is to insert the poles directly into the footprint before setting up the tent. Big Agnes designed it this way so you could drop the footprint and attach the rain fly if you were caught in a storm, then crawl in and wait it out or set up the tent without getting rained on. For the record, I haven't had to use it for this purpose, but I still lay the footprint down and put the poles in first. You can then wrap the tent straps under the footprint straps and the poles will go into both grommets. The footprint doesn't slide or move around and stays taut. The straps are color coded so you know which way to orient your tent. Worth the investment to keep an expensive tent from ripping.
Replacement Footprint
I decided to replace my Tyvek footprint with a BA footprint meant to go with my tent. I have not used it yet, but will you a couple comments on the product as of now: *Not as light as Tyvek *Is much smaller folded up then Tyvek *With a tent fly set up ONLY, this footprint will not work with a 2019 BA Copper Spur HV UL2. But, BA customer service did tell me you can ship the footprint in to them to swap the buckles to fit a 2019 (or if you are handy and can sew well, just buy the buckles from them for $5 each). *Handy bag to store the footprint in.
Do Big Agnes engineers talk to each other?
Does the job, but does not attach to the tent well. The footprint grommets do not secure to the tent poles loke the grommets of the tent itself. With all of their updates on this model, Im surprised BA let this detail get away.
2019 Big Agnes Spur HV UL2 Footprint
This is an excllent footprint and design. Keep in mind the Big Agnes Spur HVUL2 tent is designed for a fast pitch in case of rain by using the tent fly. Follow these steps and you will find the footprint works with the tent and tent fly. 1. Stretch out footprint and place 4 stakes at each corner. 2. The tent poles are designed to stretch. Next place the tent poles in each corner of the footprint (holes). 3. Next place your tent on the footprint. Match the organe colors first. 4. Stretch tent at each corner. Pick one corner and take out the pole from the footprint and place the tent hole on top. Replace tent pole into the tent and footprint. Repeat the process at the reaming the corners. 5. Next place the tent fly over the tent. You can clip the tent fly to either the tent or the footprint. I used the footprint to allow more air flow. Now you have a fully functional tent and footprint. Practice in you yard or park. It doesn't work in your footprint isnt' staked. 6. Let's say your packpacking or hiking. You see a rain storm coming. Do the same process. This time don't install the tent. Only use the tent fly. Now you have instant shelter within a couple of mins using the footprint and tent fly. Amazing design feature from Big Agnes. If the rain continues you can set up your tent without getting wet. Hope this helps others as well.
this is ridiculous
The footprint fits under the tent right but what’s the point of the grommets if you can’t put the poles through? The grommets are way further out then the poles go when the tent is attached and the whole thing is loose under the tent.
