Inside of cup coated with a film that flaked off
After one use of the Bugaboo anodized cup with hot tea and a follow up wash, a thin film appeared to bubble up inside the cup and flaked off. REI shipped the cup to me wrapped in brown paper. If there was a message about a coating I didn't see it. I'm wondering what besides aluminum is in this aluminum cup? I don't know what the failed coating is and I don't want to eat it. One star is more generous than it deserves. I have to wonder how this thing is going to survive in the outdoors when it can't survive one day in the kitchen.
Film delaminates into your drink
It’s very hard to notice at first, but this mug has a film that is disintegrating into your drink
Beware, coating flakes off
This cup could've been soo great. Very lightweight, wonderful colors, great finger notch handles that fold down, marked graduations, price, etc. However I feel that this is a bad product that needs to be warned about. I've only used it once for coffee and used a plastic spoon to stir honey and cream. After washing it, I noticed the inside looked different in a couple tiny spots. I thought something was left inside, but when I scraped it lightly with my nail, clear shiny flakes were peeling off. I tried washing that out with dish sponge but it only comes off randomly with a lot of effort. Pretty gross that this brittle crusty stuff can come off into your drink. I don't feel safe using this.
Easy fix, Great cup
Read reviews about plastic coating flaking off. Bought it anyway as I wanted an anodized cup of ultralight cook pot. Once flaking started, I used Toluene to remove the coating. --- Toluene, also known as methylbenzene, is a clear, colorless liquid with a distinctive sweet smell that is widely used in industrial settings as a solvent. Toluene also is an ingredient in some consumer products such as paints, glues and nail polish removers. Toluene occurs naturally in crude oil and in the tolu tree.
Clear film flaked off cup surface
Unsure if this cup is safe to drink from, as a clear film flaked off the inside surface after boiling water in the cup. Didn't notice until after I drank out of it - yum! : (
Once was shiny, now it's ...
At first looks there's not much that can go wrong. After all, it's just a cup right? In fact it was a pretty shiny lightweight cup for a bit but in my personal experience, the finish started flaking/scratching off almost immediately. Use it as a basic cup, but I wouldn't go with another colored cup like this. Better off going with a solid unfinished material for a cup.
Bubble pealing
As many others have reported, this cup after one use of boiling has bubbled a weird coating off the cup and into my water. I will never use this cup again and will be trashing this thing.
Inside film peels into drinks
Film peels off inside when hot water is used. NOT SUITABLE FOR HOT DRINKS. This is something that should be explicitly labeled and not for customers to find out.
Peels and you drink it!
DO NOT USE THESE CUPS TO COOK IN. The color coating will peel off in the inside of the cup if you use these to cook in. You then drink/eat the coating if you do not know its peeling/flaking. These are better to use for cold and warm beverages with no cooking. I wish I would have known this prior to purchasing. Waste of money.
Peeling
I've had this cup for about a year and a half and I loved it. It's light and has very handy markings to measure. But it finally started to peel on me. It was after I put a hot drink in it and it peeled big flakes of the coating. I definitely won't be using it anymore. It's useless.
