THIS IS A MUST FOR ANYTHING OUTDOORS!!
I'm so excited about this! I've been looking for and needing a good light to take camping, and to have while hiking and fishing. I needed something light weight and solar powered. This thing is amazing! It didn't take hardly any time to charge up and be ready to use. It didn't weigh much at all, and I didn't need to have batteries! I love that the attached handle that came with it is adjustable, and i can take it apart to hook it around things. I attached it to my camping chair and even hung it from a tree to get some nice surround lighting. It didn't take long at all to blow up... it was seriously one breath of air and it was full and ready to go. When I was done with it and ready to put it up... it was a little tricky to squeeze the nozzle closed to release the air... but i got the hang of it and it quickly deflated. I love that it has three brightness settings (low, medium, high, and a 4th setting of stobe). I kept it on the highest and it stayed bright the whole time i used it, which was about 4-5 hours and it wasn't dimming yet. I've attached a bunch of photos I hope help show the best qualities of this. You won't be dissapointed at all!!
Great in power outages
We bought one of these for a camping trip into the Emigrant Wilderness this summer and loved it, but didn't push it as it had enough power from the original charge to last 6 nights (which was impressive). Knowing that PGE was planning to shut off our power, we bought another one for us and one for my 92 year old mother in law. We all love them. Everybody should own one of these. PGE cut the power and one little guy gave great light for a dinner party last night. Then they fully charged our cell phones this morning (with lots of battery power left), and then when placed into the sun, they charged right back up. Fantastic product!
Nice
Awesome bright lantern. I have been using one nearly every night for the past couple months. One problem I've had had to do with the top handle breaking. Would be better w/stonger bigger handle (like competitor). Also I dropped it from the top of a very low height Honda Accord hood and it got a puncture (I've dropped it dozens of times without any problems b4) -I don't consider that a negative though. With normal wear and tear the clear plastic part of the inflatable lantern gets scratched (competitors doesnt) very noticeably. So if luci is listening and want to make an even better product, fix the small handle and the scratched clear plastic issue. The fancy box it comes in is nice, but prob not really needed.
Could be great, but…
Spent 8 day rafting the bottom of the Grand Canyon with 24 people Aug 8-16th. 17 in our group had this light. Of the 17, 9 lanterns failed to work properly. The biggest problems were the ones that shut off after only a few minutes the first night that had been fully charged the night before in our motel. The next problem were the ones that would not take a solar charge being out in the sun for more than 9 hours. Lastly although the lantern worked, the charge indicator lights would not function. Those in the group who had lanterns that worked were very happy with them. Good thing most of us brought backup headlamps. I will be returning it when I get back to where it is at.
mixed feelings...
I really wanted this product to work. It sounded cool to be able to charge my phone and watch etc. with solar energy battery. Unfortunately, this product does not always work. It seems to work better as a light but even that is not 100% guaranteed. I reached out to the company (Luci) and they send me some guidelines on what might have gone wrong (including you are not suppose to charge anything other than a phone) and how to reset things. So, I will probably give it another try before deciding whether to return it. But I would not trust this if I was going for a backpacking trip. Luckily I have other options when car-camping.
Sad to return but does not charge in sun light
really wanted to love this but it did not work for me on a 7 day trek to Mt Kilimanjaro. We had clear sunny skies the entire time, I had this hanging on my backpack during day and sitting on a table in the afternoon and it never charged. The light did work from the initial charge I gave it at the hotel, so it did work to light my tent. It had no juice to power up anything using the USB. Two other friends had purchased one also, and their product also did not work on this trek. Sad to be returning it as was hopeful would be an amazing prodcut
A battery lantern that replaces my Coleman
No, it's not as bright. But it's plenty bright enough to cook by, and I was able to work on a NYTimes crossword (without having to fish out my old man glasses! and not even on the highest setting) until I fell asleep. It's light enough to use backpacking, possibly as your only flashlight, although I haven't figured out how to fix it to me to work well as a headlamp. It doesn't break when dropped onto granite, but it does roll (hundreds of feet - oops) so keep a string attached when in precarious spots. Floats, too, and waterproof. Don't know how long it holds a charge - didn't run it down in 5 days of use without recharge, and we used it every night at dinner and for after dinner entertainment.
Used to work perfectly
It worked great for 1 3 day backpacking trip...then...1)The charge indicator lights stopped functioning, so I don’t know how much charge the lantern has. Consequently, I live dangerously wondering if the lantern is fully charged in the evening. 2)I used to be able to charge my phone with the lantern, but now the lantern only sucks battery life out of my phone. As a result, I now have to carry a separate battery pack. It works great as a lantern. Lights are nice and bright. I can hang it off of my backpack and let it charge while I’m hiking.
Not what I expected, won't charge phone -
I've owned more than one Luci light since they originally came out - they're an excellent tool! When this version - with a bigger battery bank and with USB port included to charge other devices, I was stoked! We do a lot of paddling and camping, so it seemed like a rad product. I bought it specifically for a 15 day, 200 mile ocean paddling trip. Upon buying, I plugged it into 120V power at home to get it fully charged off the bat, and when I plugged my phone in, it charged. Stoked. We launched on our paddling trip and used the light in the evenings for camp chores etc. As a light, it's great! I strapped the Luci to the front of my kayak so it was in the sun literally all day charging. With a full "sun" charge, the Luci would NOT charge my phone while in the field. I was crushed! I tried it everyday, ran it to zero, charged it back up (solar) and still, it would not charge either of our iphones; phones wouldn't even recognize a charge was being administered. Considering this was the entire reason I bought it, I was disappointed. I didn't necessarily need more camp light - we have a lot of headlights and such, I was far more excited about device-charging using the sun. So although advertised for phones, there's the possibility it will not perform as you expect.
FIX YOUR TOP STRAP!!
I love these lights and love th charging feature and even better being able to use my goal zero to fully charge the light in minutes if I forgot to put out in the sun or poor weather. 5 for the light 0 minus for the strap. Fix the strap and its a 5 all day long. BUT FIX THE TOP STRAP!! It's a poor cheap design. I have had 3 of these fail and now that REI harasses you on every return and doesn't stand behind products after a year. You have a key feature on this broken without an ability to return or get repaired!!!!! I have one now that's simply a counter item and I want it replaced. Again I am recommending but want this to be FIXED and not EVEN WHEN I AM AWARE AND TOTALLY CAREFUL have this thing tear apart.
