    NEMO Quantum Elite 2 Tent - 2013 Closeoutis rated2.3333out of5by3.
Rated2out of5byfromSomehow not recommendedI decided to get this tent, regardless the problems that the previous reviewer describes. However, I have the same concerns and issues. The tent is not easy to set up and I'm afraid that internal pole installation system may damage the tent because of limited space. Also, I haven't tested it outdoors, but its 10-denier waterproof nylon may not be enough to keep the tent dry inside during heavy rains (I own Terra Nova tent with 6000mm rating!). It may still be a good tent for somebody concerned with weight, it is very light and does not take a lot of space. Even though I got it for $260 from REI, it goes back to store. I may consider a little more expensive ultralight Big Agnes Fly Creek.

Rated4out of5byfromEasy setupI have not used the tent yet. This is simply to add context to the previous review. This tent is easy to set up when you follow the directions. You do fully extend the poles prior to inserting them into the tent. You do not install the poles from inside the tent. It can all be done from outside the tent. The counterintuitive thing about the tent is that the poles don't have sleeves. One end of the pole is placed in a back corner of the tent, and then you flex the pole into an arch and place the other end in the opposite corner of the floor while the arch of the pole sticks up out the door of the tent (which is still essentially flat on the ground). You then ease the arched hoop into the door opening of the tent, erecting the structure. The second pole follows the same procedure. I learned this prior to receiving the tent by downloading a .pdf off the Nemo site, so I knew what to expect. There really are no excessive stresses on any materials in the setup process. However, once the two poles are roughly in place, there are 16(!) Velcro straps that need to be secured around the poles to fix them in place. These take the place of more conventional pole sleeves. The tent is seam sealed everywhere except where the Velcro straps are stitched to the fly. You are given a tube of urethane seam sealer to do the final step. Not sure why they couldn't do this at Nemo. The quality looks great and the tent is pretty darn light (though not as light as some cottage industry models like the excellent Tarptents by Henry Shires which are dual wall to boot). The stakes are really lame, however, as are the heavy and bulky stuff sacks. They are hardly minimalist for a 'racing' tent. This would be tight for two people. I intend to use it for solo snow camping, so the small vestibule and single door won't be a big issue, I hope. I like the relatively large vents and noseeum mesh door under an integrated vestibule. Pretty rare in a 4 season tent. We'll see what the condensation is like or if spindrift blows in through the unprotected mesh (most likely not a concern for spring ski tours).

Rated1out of5byfromReturned itI bought this tent because I have wanted a Nemo for some time, and - candidly - the price was right. It was on closeout, and I thought that it seemed a steal at the closeout price. I am an avid camper and currently own 5 other tents of various sizes and designs. I got the Nemo home, and found that the interior pole design made it VERY difficult to set up. You have to get inside the tent at install the poles by extending them once inside. It stretches very taut to complete the setup, too taut for my comfort. And, I had a hard time believing that I would be able to set it up more than a couple times without putting a pole through the wall of the tent. I did get it set up the first time, but it wasn't without concern. And, frankly, setting it up while sitting inside is no joy, even if the setup was easy. They characterize it as a racing tent, but I wouldn't want to be in a hurry trying to get it set up. I took it back down, waited a couple days before attempting it again. On the second round, I got one pole installed, corner to opposite corner. And, I decided I wasn't going to go any further. I returned. At the store, the REI person said that he had one and loved it. When I said that I hated it, he asked if I was worried that I might rip it in setting it up. He scoffed when I said that was it, suggesting that it is much more durable than it seems. Still, I had no reservations about the return.
